I just "experienced" this exhibit, and I thought it was wonderful. The exhibit is for the next few days in 3 states.
The World Vision Experience: AIDS, a free exhibit that will open your eyes to the AIDS crisis. This amazing walk-through village takes you on a virtual journey to Africa, where you'll walk in the steps of a child affected by the AIDS crisis. The interactive exhibit features a stirring audio tour (they give each person a headset and tape player) combined with captivating photography that will transport you to the heart of Africa. You'll gain a completely new perspective on the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time: AIDS.
It is on right NOW for
Today, Sunday, as well as Monday and Tuesday. In
New York it is in Hicksville, on Long Island, and in
Washington State it is in Bellingham, Richland and Redmond, and in
Ohio it is in Dayton.
It is really worth the effort to go. Yes at the end they would like you to sponsor a child through World Vision, but I did not want to and there was
absolutely no pressure. But the experience overall was worth it. It takes about 25-30 minutes to walk through it.
Anyone who works for overseas non-profits would benefit from the experience. I work with Operation Christmas Child and it brought home again the incredibly poverty and difficult life of these children and made me want to work even harder. My DD had the opportunity to travel to Kenya to help build homes for families devastated by AIDS. She told me stories, and showed me pictures, but this exhibit for just a few moments made me feel like I was there to see for myself.
