Ugh! My ex was a painting contractor. I don't think there is a special tool for that. My suggestion is to just paint around it, kinda cutting in behind it as far as you can. Nobody is going to actually see behind it anyway. Or you might try something like those long handled swiffer magic duster things to just be able to schmeer the paint around behind it. I think I would just go with option one though. Keep some extra paint so that when the tv does ever come down you can paint that spot.

does your wall mount pull out from the wall? The reason I am asking is my mom had the same question and my DH simply pulled the TV away from the wall. She didn't know she could do that. She thought it was only in one place. If it doesn't come out from the wall then I guess option one mentioned above would work

If you have the type that pulls away from the wall, I agree withthe above poster. I would contact the folks who installed it and tell them what you are trying to do. They can probably talk you through the removal process. My husband has taken our tv down several times --no big deal...it is just a bit cumbersome and is best done with 2 strong people. Our tv is mounted with a rectangular bracket where the tv simply "locks" in place.
