I'm kinda excited too. I've only read Twilight though. My daughter wants to go to Forks tomorrow night. She just sprung this on me today. It's about a 3 hour drive and I'm considering it. . . .seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'm concerned about all the people and not having a place to stay though. Forks is a really small town and people have been flying in from all over the country this week. They keep showing it on the local news here. It's so weird to me because I used to spend a good part of the summer in LaPush (First Beach) as a kid. My dad was a school teacher and would work on a friends charter boat during the summers out of there.

My daughter is soo into Twilight. She read all the books over the summer. She wanted to go to the midnight showing last night, but there was no way. Seein itg this weekend may be a challenge as well since every showing will be sold out. This is shaping up to be much bigger than Harry Potter.

P.S. What is Forks?

Forks is the setting for the book. Forks is a small logging town on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. HTH

Okay, well let me be the first to post that I saw it. We actually went to the midnight showing last night. WOW, what a let down. We laughed at so many points in this movie because it was so over-done and campy. We absolutely love the books and I was so disappointed at the way the movie was done. It was just painful to see the things they left out and the random bits they added in that didn't help the story at all. I still LOVE Robert Pattinson, but for about the first half of the movie I had to wonder if he was playing Edward as mentally challenged. After that he was the only thing I was watching.

Anyway, I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks.

I haven't read the books or seen the movie...but isn't it always true that the movie can't play justice to the book? I'm not sure which is better...seeing the movie, or reading the book first.

I'm anxious to see what everybody else says about the movie.

I was so afraid that was going to be the case! We're going to see the movie tonight! I loved the books so far (although, Twilight has been my fave in the series). I haven't read the last one yet though.

I saw it a few weeks ago. Had a friend that worked on the movie and sent me an early copy.

I wasn't moved.

Well, not to spoil anyone's fun but I 've heard some nasty reviews about it being un-Christian. Girls are wanting the lead actor to bite them in the neck now. Weird.

Maybe I am way off base, but it is a vampire movie, why would you think it would be a Christian based movie to begin with????

That's the word on the street. . .that it's pretty darn campy. Maybe the movies will get better with time. I think the Harry Potter movies kept getting better. The third one is my favorite. Let's hope that happens with this series. I'm still hoping to go see it this weekend. Besides it will just be cool to see a local place that I am so familiar with on film.

Oh, I had received an email saying it was being marketed to tweens as kind of a love story type thing. The email could be wrong. Pluggedinonline has a review on this and it sights-concering the book series-sensuality, occult reference, violence and sacrificial suicide by the series end. Not good things for tweens, in my opinion.

Uh yeah...it's a vampire falling in love with a human love story series and I believe later books include a werewolf. It's probably about as un-Christian as you can get....well, maybe except "Role Models"....LOL

I just finished reading Twilight two days ago, and ordered "New Moon". Waiting for it to be delivered. I don't know if I'll see the movie or not. Wish Kelliii lived closer to me so I could borrow her copy!

Hambirg..where abouts do you live? We are also from the Pacific NW...have family in Port Angeles and we also live within driving distance (and a ferry ride) to Forks. It's been fun reading about some place we are familiar with.

My dd just got back from seeing the movie. They did show a brief scene in Port Angeles, but nothing else was filmed here. The school in the movie was 2 stories...but if you've ever been to Forks...you know that isn't the case...lol But she did say that the movie really made her appreciate living here.

I'm in Tacoma. . .yeah, yeah. . .the armpit. Lol! I haven't been to Port Angeles in a long time, but we used to stay at the KOA all the time and take take the ferry to Victoria. Do you know if there is still the Pizza Mia in PA? I used to work at the one in Ellensburg in college, but it's closed now. It would be worth the drive just for a good grinder.

I didn't know that only the PA scene made it in the movie. That sucks. And yes, I do know what Forks High School looks like. . .that will be weird too. It's really too bad they didn't shoot it all in Forks. I imagine it will distract me the whole time, "Hey! That's not Forks." LOL!

I thought it did go thru the book to quick, it left me wanting so much more..I wanted more Edward. Music soundtrack wasnt good, nothing I would buy. But I will buy the dvd when it comes out. No to sound to "un christian" but Edward can bite my neck ANYTIME :0)

The reviews I read in the paper said it was marketed to teens/tweens. It is a vampire/love story from what I understand. That being said, my friend took her daughter, my daughter and another one of their friends to see it last night. My daughter spent the night so I haven't actually talked to her, but got a text message after the move last night saying "the movie was awesome". She did not read the book in advance, her friend did read the book in advance. They are 13 year olds.

I'm about 130 miles north of you. Just outside Bellingham. I asked my family in PA...sorry no more Pizza Mia. It's funny you went to college in Ellensburg, I have family over that way too and used to go to the Ellensburg rodeo when I was younger.

My dd said it finally dawned on her what she thought of the movie...while she really liked it, she felt it was too crammed. She felt like the book had so many details that the movie should have been longer so that they could include those details more in depth.

I just got back from seeing the movie - I thought it was really great. Granted the low budget did not allow for the high-tech stunts, but over-all I thought it was really good. The theater was packed with females between 7 and 25 (a few of us oldies too) --- everyone walking out seemed to love it.

It follows the book pretty closely. Oh man...the sparkle was great!!!! Just as I'd imagined.

I think if New Moon is made it will be a "studio" picture with more $$$ for better production.

BTW - Although I really thought Robert Pattenson did a great job as Edward I still do not think he is "beautiful" enough for the part.

I saw the movie last night with my 13 year old daughter, her friends, my 16 yr old niece & friends as well as another mom. I have not yet ready the books even though my DD has begged me to because she thought I would enjoy them. The other mom has read them all and fed info to me through the movie (which helped me understand the story a bit more). I thought it was a good movie and will most definitely read the books now. As far as the whole Christian problem, occult, etc-- well, I don't see the issue/problem and I am a Christian. Yes, it is about vampires....but it is fiction just like most movies that our kids see. I would like to think that my child is able to discern fiction vs. non fiction. We had a great discussion on the way home about the emotions of first love, hormones and the importance of maintaining self control. I found many parallels in the story that I can certainly use as she discovers the ups and downs of teen drama. On the other hand, I thought the actors in the movie were incredibly convincing when they conveyed the "desire" that builds when you find the "one". It certainly took me back a few years when I first met my husband. I was thankful that there was no gratuitous sex and that the main characters acted responsibly (I don't want to give it all away). As far as the comment about concerns regarding her begging him to bite her neck -- I didn't see it so much as the "drinking of the blood" as much as it was her issue of realizing her love for him. Personally, I didn't have a problem with it and I doubt we will see our kids attempting to become vampires. If they do, there are bigger issues to discuss. Call me odd, but this movie allowed me an open path to discuss some of the more difficult points about sexual maturity with my DD. I think she actually sees me in a different light because we are both able to relate to the subject matter (from VERY different levels).

I think the next one will be even better with a bigger budget.

The crowd was as entertaining as the movie -- haven't seen that much audience interaction in years! The girls kept saying "awww, come on" when they would almost kiss!

I think the "un_Christian" idea comes from we as Christians not getting into the occult, but it is about vampires. witches=occult=real....vampires=fiction. I read the books and really enjoyed them and would like to see the movie. However, I do think the books are inappropriate for tweens and young teens. jmo

I saw it Friday night with my 12 year old DD and an entire movie theater full of teens, lol. It was GREAT! I haven't read the books yet (DD has and loves them) but want to now. I thought it was very well done, there were a few places that were kinda sappy, yes. But, it is marketed to a tween/teen group and I was thankful that it wasn't risque or over the top like that, ya know? I think it was well done and I can't wait to see the next one! All of the teens in the theater thought it was great apparently, also.

My DH is from Bremerton, Washington and familiar with those areas too. Both my DD and I thought that Edward's character (the actor) did a great job, while we thought Bella was not exactly what we had in mind/we thought her acting talent was somewhat lacking. I don't watch movies more than once, but I would watch this again. Interested to see what everyone else thinks...

actually considering the content i think its an awesome book. It deals with vampires learning how to live with people and not wanting to kill them. And Edward doesnt want to turn bella into a vampire she is the one who wants it. I understand how religion can say its unchristian but it wasnt put out there as a christian book. And how can it be sacrificial suicide if she lives?

I in general really liked the movie. There were parts about it that I didn't love, but all-in-all considering the budget thought they did a good job. I wasn't expecting masterpiece theater but it worked for me (us including my DH).

I thought it was complely appropriate for teenage girls, nothing overboard or gratuitous.

I think any concerns about the occult are ridiculous, but to each their own. I have the same opinion about this as the Harry Potter movies, CS Lewis or the Golden Compass. If its not your thing, don't watch it. Leave me alone and let the rest of us enjoy our movies.

I look forward to seeing the next movie and what they can do with a bigger budget. I do hope they recast a few of the characters though. Considering that they made this one for only 37million and its expected to make 75 its opening weekend, I think any concerns the studio had as to whether or not they could make more are out the window. I sure hope Stephanie Meyer got a cut, not a flat rate.

Your email reference is wrong. There is nothing occult and where they got sacrificial suicide is just soooo ridiculous - nothing of the sort in any of the 4 books. The little violence is MUCH less than you would see in any Die Hard, Indiana Jones, Batman, or James Bond movie and it's not gratuitous violence. Yes there is sensuality, it is a love story after all, but no sex or bad language in the whole series.

I know you based your comment on that email, but Honestly, it was totally off base! (The email, I mean)

Just an FYI - Stephanie Meyer, the author, is a devote Christian (Morman).

Actually there is no sex. They take the story as far as getting to the bed, some kissing, and then it cuts to the morning after. But you're right, that is the only implied sex - after they are married, on the honeymoon.

that is true about the implied sex. I just figured in the movie it will probably be a big sex scene more then was talked about in the book. If they make a movie about the final book.
