fruitcake

Does anyone beside me like fruitcake? There are some I know that are not worth eating but a good fruitcake can't be beat.

My DH loves it.
He only gets the Deluxe fruit cakes that have candied cherries, pineapple and pecans.
These are expensive.

The ones made with raisins and candied friut peels are cheap, but awful!!.

Editing to ad that he does like these.

My DH loves it---the only person I personally know who does though.

My Granny made the best fruitcake. It is the only one I have ever had that was good. Might have had something to do with all the Southern Comfort in it
But really it was soooo good!

I've never had one that I liked. But I watched a special about the monks in Oregon once and I have to admit their fruitcake looks pretty darn good. I want to try it sometime.

I am with you on the Collin St. Bakery. These are really moist, rich, and delicious. We have been ordering these for about 20 years. Yeah, I'm old....You gotta' love the amt. of pecans and pineapple in this cake, not just the funky fruit. They are a bit pricey, in the $20.xx range, but they are great for a breakfast treat, or just for something sweet. A little bit of this goes a long way. That being said, Sam's Club sells a fruitcake (in a package of three logs/loaves). They are usually right next to the bagels. These are actually quite tasty too. Not as good as Collin St., but no one complained when they were served.

We have ordered from them two or three times and really, really like them. There is one at Costco that looks pretty good too, but I have never tried it.

A Life long friend of the family makes the BEST, MOIST fruitcake Ive have ever had, It's just about the only one I'll eat. It takes 28 days, (Yes you saw right 28 days ) to make the cake. You have to let the batter sit for 1 week, then the fruit has to sit 1 week in rum. then the batter and fruit sit another week, (on week 3 bake) and then pour the rum sugar over the top let sit the remaining 7 days. OMG so good !!! so moist !!!, She uses fresh pecans of the year ( never last years crop ). She's very picky on the fruits ( I believe she uses the real fruit that comes in a plastic container ). She also uses cherries out of the jar ( never candied). She also makes something called a friendship cake that takes 30 days to make and it too is SO yummy.

Ops meant to also say, each day you have to take the batter & stir it for about 10 Min's, cover and place back in refrig, same with the fruit, take out daily, stir and replace in refrig.

I love Fruitcake and I frequently make it and give it to lots of friends and relatives who request my fruitcake every year. In fact I just bought my ingredients today for this year. My recipe was featured in this month's issue of Penzey's One magazine.

I hate cheap fruitcake...like I hate cheap makeup.

You can't compare really quality fruitcake with the cheap stuff...and that is the difference. Anybody who says they love it, loves homemade or really premium fruitcakes.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE fruitcake. When I was growing up my Dad's/Uncles' shop sent out ones from the Midwest that were to die for. My Mom made homemade ones and soaked them in cheesecloth and brandy the next year they were Heaven. Harry & David has a fruitcake confection that is divine.

The problem with bad ones is they are dry and the ingredients are substandard.

I can't wait to bite into some good fruitcake!

I love fruitcake. But, no one else I know likes it at all. Sure wish they did. I went to the link above to see if they had a small one but they don't. Hate to order a regular size one just for myself.

I can't recall that I've ever tasted fruitcake but it just looks like it's loaded with rubber/gummy textured fruit shaped things. I don't think it would feel right in my mouth.

When I was a teenager, I worked in a deli and we sold souse. It reminded me of fruitcake. Yucky.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I can't justify ordering that size fruitcake when I'm the only one who will eat it

But now I really, really want a great fruitcake

We actually have a local bakery that makes a very expensive one -- I think I might just go buy one for myself (at least I'll save on the shipping!).
