Which is the better / Xbox 360 or PS3 ? *UPDATE* Thanks e1

It's finally here, the Boy's are into this gaming stuff.
( Thanks to DH for his input and bringing home that halo game ). So now they all want a game console for Christmas.
My eye's are bleeding from all the research between dell and amazon reviews on the systems. Since I don't know much about either one I can't say what is good about either one and since we have never had a game console we have no past with them ( or any other one for that matter ).
I do however like that guitar hero game ( Saw a Lil boy just today at best-buy playing it as if he been born with a guitar in his hand, he played for nearly 30 Min's and not once missed a note ) But I don't know if you can't play this on both or just 1 ( didn't look to see what game console it was being played on ), My boy's do like to play the Lego star wars game ( PC for now ) and I see it can be played on a PS3 but not for sure if you can get it on a xbox360 ( need to check into that).
So any hoot, What or which one have you played/ owned and which was the best. 400.00 is a lot of money to shell out on a Hope they will play this ..

TIA
P.s If I get the PS it will be the PS3 and if I go with the Xbox 360 it will be the Elite, Since these are the newest most updated systems.

My husband has both (and the Wii). Honestly, he plays his 360 a million times more than his PS3.

We have all the systems and the 360 gets played way more then the PS3. They LOVE the wii here too. It's a tie between the wii & 360.

I really doubt you'll have to worry about that. (LOL) Once they're hooked.... they're hooked!

My DS recommends the 360 as well and said that Guitar Hero and Lego Star Wars are on both consoles. He's been an avid gamer for many years and has numerous consoles. Actually, between DS, DH and myself.... we have (or had) almost every console from the Super Nintendo & Sega Genesis up to the 360 Elite. (Still have most of them.)

My 13 year old son would say the Xbox360 hands down. My only problem with it is that we have had it for almost a year and we have had to return it twice. The first time was when it was a couple months old and then again 3 weeks ago. It was under warrenty both times, but what about the next time. They cost too much money to break down so much. I hope newer ones are better and don't get the "red ring of death" as often.

DH did a lot of investigating before he settled on the PS3. He has had no regrets at all.

The 360 still has a lot of issues that need to be worked out. The bugs are still crazy in the system.

He loves his PS3!!

Thanks everyone.
I went ahead and ordered the xbox 360 elite Can't believe I paid that much for a game console ( Hubby owes me BIG TIME ! ) 399.99...
Also order that game called gears of war ..
Came so close to ordering the hero set LOL.( Yes I want that 1 hehehe).
So this will be the "Kids" ( DH is more like it )Big Christmas gift from us
( Reads more like me than DH ).. but 12 yo DD isn't too happy as she said to me, You know me and C will never get to play on it
( She probably not far from the truth on it )
Told her I'll check into some "girl" games for you and C and we'll set time limits ( She rolled her eyes and walked away grumbling something about I can see Daddy having a time limit ),
But Thanks everyone for the input, guess I'll have to find us girls a "family" gift now.

You can always do like my parents did the year we got our first video game system.

They bought it for us for Christmas but they would get it out at night and play with it after we were in bed, before Christmas! We wondered how they were so good at some of the games.

They confessed years later and also told us they'd done the same thing with the VCR.

Our first game system was a Coleco Vision so that was many, many years ago.

So maybe DH can focus his game time to when the kids are in bed, lol!
