Talk me back on the wagon

The exercise wagon that is.
Ok there I was going along just fine with a routine of getting on the eliptical machine every morning for 30 minutes followed by a yoga routine. Some days I would mix it up with a hike in the foothills close to the house and working with the balance ball. Then somewhere along the way about 4 months ago I not only fell off the wagon but I think I was run over by it.
I guess my body coasted for a little while believing it was ok but now I am feeling every little ache and pain, no energy, not sleeping good just BLAH.

Help me out please. I guess I need a stern talking to. I need a verbal kick in the pants to get going. If not there will be a larger target to kick shortly.
C'mon, let me have it.

Yikes, girl....your "get up and go" just got up and left?? What's up with that? If this old gal can do it, well gosh, so can you! If you quit, I'm quitting too....and you can't take that guilt can ya? LOL, just kidding....

Seriously, sometimes you just get sick of it and need to take a break or shake up the routine somehow....but for 4 days, not 4 months!!! Get the lead out, cashchik! Let's go!!!

I have been procrastinating getting back to my am walk, but CJ just kicked so much @$$ with her motivational virtual speech, that I'll be resuming my walking tomorrow am, after the kids are on the bus...no matter the weather...

If I'm back on (and CJ wasn't even talking to me - LOL), then I hope you are, too - I just took the leftovers!

Have fun, Cashchik! You know you're going to feel better afterwards, too - so will I!

I hope to log on here this time tomorrow, and read that you got back on that wagon...

This is so true!! I hem and haw and procrastinate about going sometimes.....but you know what? I'm NEVER sorry that I did when it's all said and done! It always feels better to have that extra boost of energy and to know that you've done something positive for yourself.

Now you listen to me MIssy. You just get up and start doing it! Set the calendar on your cell phone to ring on the days and at the times to exercise. Then when it rings just do it! Keep your mat or weights or whatever right where you can see them.
Buy a pair of pants in the next size down and try them on once a week.
Have a buddy then you cannot say no when she shows up. Do you have a dog? If not now is the time to get one. That dog will FORCE you to go on daily walks.
Is there something you want? An expensive pair of boots? A new sofa? Put a fund in a jar every time you lose a pound or fit better in the pants put money in the jar.
Make yourself accountable to someone. Tell them "I am going to start doing (whatever) three times a week and walking 5 times a week."
You will look forward to your exercise time after all it's the ONLY time you are truly alone with your thoughts. It's great!

Ok ladies, I am off to a lurching start.
Before going to bed last night I laid out the yoga pants and the sweatshirt that I always wear to workout.
And when I got up this morning I fumbled my way into the clothes and stumbled to the room with the eliptical. Stumbled because I was doing all this while my eyes were mostly still asleep. I thougtht if I truly woke up I might deviate.

And away I went.

For a full 16 min.

And I thought I was going to die.

I sounded like an open accordian falling down stairs, I was wheezing so loud.

How can you get so out of shape in such a short period of time??

I did some stretching and am now having my coffee.
Today is shopping and dog park day. So I plan on walking the park while Rusty plays instead of sitting on the bench watching like I usually do.

Thank you for the encouragement. I do know I will feel better. And no, I never regret having made the effort.

Tomorrow will be better.

Yeah for you!! That was the first step to getting your life back in balance. One of the things I noticed when I take a break from exercise is that everything seems so out of balance. I think it must have a great deal to do with staying in a routine. I do some form of exercise six days a week. When I take time off it feels fine for a short period, but then I find I start feeling guilty and also I just feel so blahh... I have also found that as I get older (I am 46), it takes me longer to bounce back if I take too long of a break from exercise. So, just try to think about how great you feel AFTER the workout. I reward myself with one day a week of eating whatever I want and not exercising. The key is to make sure to get back into the routine after the one day off ends.

Good job, I am so happy to hear, you went back.Any form of exercise is always good, especially around the holidays, when we tend to eat and indulge a bit more on all the good foods served during the Holiday season. Peace. Catherine

I know just how you feel

I've been "trying" to get to Curves at least 3 times a week, but it's soooo hard. I go at 7:00 in the morning before I go to work.

I am doing it for my blood pressure -- the doctor says it will help.

DAY TWO

Same stumbling start. It really does help to not be fully awake. If I give myself time to wake up, I give myself time to think of reasons not to exercise.

I did the full 30 min. on the lowest resistance.

And I thought I was going to die.

This time the wheezing sounded like an elderly steam train pulling up a grade.

Again just a couple yoga stretches and I'm calling it good.

I do have a full day in the yard planned so that should help with extra activity.

I will up the ante everyday until I am back in a good routine where I can get it done and go about my day with energy and focus. Not to mention without the aches and pains.

Thanks again for the shoves to get me going.

Go and sit in the lobby of a local hospital or medical center. You'll probably see lots of people having a very hard time getting around. That may be motivation enough to get you moving again.

Just start small, walking a little bit or something and gradually build up to where you were. Even a little bit of exercise will probably make you feel so much better. I took the week of Thanksgiving off from my work-out routine and by the Monday after Thanksgiving I was feeling like I had been run over by a truck. An hour at the gym on Monday morning had me feeling much better again!

Cashchik, I know exactly what you mean! Ever since I stopped working out, I feel EVERY ache and EVERY pain and I have more than I ever thought I would.

I went on the treadmill the other day, just because I said to myself that I am TIRED of waking up every morning HURTING. It's not "mattress" hurting, it is joint aches and pains. Another thing I have noticed is that (and don't laugh!!) my rear end for the last week feels VERY Heavy!! LOL! Like it is sagging to the ground when I walk, and I can FEEL the gravity taking hold of each one of my butt cheeks and pulling down..=) Every time I walk, I wonder if it is shaking around and will hurt someone!

Okay, so now, I am convinced the only thing to make me feel better is to be on that treadmill again. It is going to take me sometime to get back up to speed, but I am starting out slow. The back of my ankle also has a torn tendon that is healing (probably from my weight and all of the bending and squatting I do at work. I am sure the pressure put on my ankles when I squat has got to be unbelievable). I've had it for over six months, and it will heal and then all I have to do is shift weight while standing and I will feel it tear again. *sigh* So I am just going to take it easy and hope that I hold up to be able to keep walking things out. I can't wait any longer for my foot to heal all the way before I get back to walking.

That was enough to motivate me. The pain of NOT doing it!

Ohhgodd you post make me laugh so much, thanks for the funny post. Why does all the food have to go to our bellies and butts. My exercise is really just walking each day except in pouring rain. I have a huge yard and I walk around the entire length 10 times. However I have been considering getting some type of a small exercise equipmentto help with my belly issues lol. But its hard truly hard this time of the year. Peace and healthy wishes in this holiday season. Catherine
