WOW! I wished I lived near all of you. My best friend bought her tree last night. It is 12 feet and they had it priced at $350. She talked them down to $225, and I think she got a great deal. I'm hoping we can do as well when we get ours this weekend. Prices like this make me almost want to consider an artificial tree. Renee |

We pay nothing for our tree. We just go on our property and cut one down. When our boys were growing up, that was one of our favorite things to do at Christmas -- taking a hike thru the woods and picking out our Christmas tree. Once my boys dug up a tiny Christmas tree and surprised me with it. We re-planted it outside and now it's HUGE! Everytime I look at it, I remember that special day they came dragging that tree out of the woods! |

We have fakers here in my house but I did see an ad in the paper that was $99.00 for a 6 ft of one kind and underneath it was $179 for a 7 ft of a different kind. I made a noise when I read the ad and DH looked up from studying and asked "what?!" I read the prices and he shook his head. ![]() *ouch* X

We used to get a real tree and would pay between $75 and $100 for a 7 footer. 7 years ago we broke down and bought a fake one. It's beautiful! We paid $500 for it and it's 7.5 feet tall and looks real. I don't know that I would go back to a real tree. I don't know if I could go back to the mess

I've always had a fake tree. Real trees are nice but IMHO just aren't worth all the bother. Between watering it and cleaning up the needles it's like having another pet in the house for the holidays. I think this is the last year for my current fake tree but I can't complain. If memory serves I paid $20 for it on clearance 5 years ago. $4 a year is not too much for a tree. I'll scope out the clearance sales again this year for a replacement. I'm surprised how much nicer the fakes are even after only 5 years. Fakes really have come a long way since the bottle brush fake we had in the 70's.

To cut a tree here it would cost at least $40 for a 5 to 6 foot tree. We have not cut one down for 6 or 7 years so it may cost more now. Noble firs that are already cut are around $40 for a 4 to 5 foot tree. We bought a douglas fir. It was 5 to 6 feet and cost $19.95. We usually get a noble fir but this year we took the cheaper douglas.

| Prices of cut trees here is ungodly !! A Douglas 5 ft will run between 60.00 and 75.00 . The cheapest Ive seen so far was at wal-mart it was 3 ft and cost 20.00.. Other trees can run between 25- 100's of dollars. This year I wanted to do something special so I went to the tree farm and got a 8 footer ( mistake in the other post I thought it was 6 1/2 feet, but tag said 8 ft ) it's a living tree and paid 59.00 for it ( I'm so proud of my tree ) I can't wait till after Christmas so the kids can point out the spot to plant the tree. I don't think I'll ever go back to a fake tree now. I have 4 in my attic and hate to bring one down every year. Such a pain to 'fluff" the limbs and I hate unpacking it and repacking it each year. So I'm pushing for living trees from now on. |

I think trees look better outside alive. we've never had a real one. parents did and I hated to clean up and water it, the other poster was right it's like having another pet in the house. fake one the kids put up since their old enough, not having a christmas this year though. couldnt imagine spending $225 on a tree that'll be tossed out after christmas

I agree with Valorian. Just the idea of all these beautiful trees being cut down, often times bagged up and trucked 100s of miles, drug inside and decorated, and then tossed or burned after a month....I just can't get my head around that practice. I don't hold anything against anyone who follows the tradition, it's just not for me (anymore). I'm sticking with my fake tree and my pine-scented Yankee Candle ![]() cj/

I've always loved a real tree-- they are a little pricey here. I've seen them as low as $30 at Food Lion, around $50 at Lowes, and in the upwards of $90 at tree lots. We bought our tree from Brandon's Boy Scout Troop this year-- an 8 footer for $55. Not too bad, and the money goes to a worthy cause.
