| You don't know beans about beans......
Beans aren't a vegetable. At lunch recently a new coworker told us that beans aren't a vegetable, they are a protein! This statement was made so matter of factly and I said, they are a vegetable. I got set straight real fast that again, beans aren't a vegetable, they are a protein. I could not convince her that she was talking about two different things. She is sure that protein is a food group. A real life demonstration about someone who doesn't know "beans about beans". dl |

My parents were vegetarians. We ate beans as a protein... Just as we ate peanuts which are also a legume. Nuts are also considered a protein. I'll join the confused! Link: Food Pyramid |

Beans are a legume. They always have been. Yes they are full of protein and fiber also they are one of the best things you can put into your body. Unless you are really gassy like my husband LOL then you are just plain torturing your poor wife. What Is A Legume? - Science Fact Finder What is a legume? A legume is any of the thousands of plant species in the legume family, Leguminosae. Legumes have seed pods that, when ripe, split along both sides. The legume family is the third largest among flowering plants. It is also the second most important to the human diet (grasses are first). Beans, lentils, peanuts, peas, and soybeans are some of the common legumes consumed by humans. Legume seeds have twice as much protein as grains. Legumes are also high in iron and B vitamins. Some legumes, such as clover and alfalfa, are used as animal feed.
