Has anyone else had a change in mail service?

Our mail used to arrive between 10 am and 11
It's now arriving between 5pm and 6pm

My husband was talking to a neighbor about it. The neighbor mentioned the occurance of the USPS employee layoffs. I had not considered that.

Has anyone else experienced a change in their mail delivery?

The only change I have seen is that it seems to be taking longer for mail to get where it needs to go, it took one of my bills 9 days to go from VA to Nevada and I ended up being late and it took 3 days for my lot rent check to go 2 blocks and I avoid the Office like the plague so now I will have to suck it up and drop it in the night drop box.

I still get mine between noon and two unless its a substitute then it could get here sometime after 5 pm.

From what I heard in the news, the post office was supposed to be laying off 40,000 people.

If your mail delivery time has changed, perhaps your regular person is on vacation, or sick. My time is now 12 noon, but whenever my carrier or off, I get a delivery at 3 or 4 because the route is cut up into pieces for others to deliver.

You can call your local post office to inquire about the change in time, it might just be temporary. (Or indeed, the person's route could have been cancelled altogether and divided up because of number crunching.)

Ours has never come that early, but this time of year ours is always late - until after Christmas. Sometimes as late as 6PM.

Nope, somebody is still stealing it. Contracts, birthday cards, you name it.

This is horrible and I assume you have already reported this, and possibly many times. Stealing mail is a federal crime. If the local post office (postmaster) has not addressed your concerns, then it is time to go higher up.
My husband has been a postal clerk for over 25 years and twice they had to bring in the postal inspectors because of a postal carrier's theft and it was resolved immediately.

Here is an online link to report such a problem if it has not been resolved:

United States Postal Inspection Service

Thank for you the link, but I'll pass. I have made more than a few calls and inquiries, but each time the problem only worsens. We have better luck at work, so I have a lot of my personal mail delivered there. What I find truly amazing is the lack of samples that show @ home. I like to compare what arrives at work vs. what shows at the house. You would not believe the amount of stuff that never makes it to the house. I even got a feminine hygiene sample box that was ripped open and left empty in the mailbox. I guess the person who decided the unmarked box might contain a treasure was disappointed w/ the contents and decided I shouldn't have them either.

My dad (he's 77) was extremely disappointed that he had picked out a special birthday card for me and it didn't show up last week. I couldn't lie to them & say how great it was because my parents know how many problems we've had. Mom felt so bad she spent $5 (YIKES!!!!) to send a replacement ceritifed.

The worst part is relatives that continue to send my children gift cards in the mail. I can't begin to tell you how much that cost me as I have to replace them when one child gets one and the other one doesn't show up. Sometimes you can tell the envies have been opened and then re-sealed.

I've given up on the postal service. Anything important I need to send gets sent FedEx. Entirely worth the cost to know it reached the intended destination and they don't charge extra for tracking.

DH and I decided we're just going to ask people to buy one card, scan it & just send us the image via e-mail every year. Saves money and gives us a laugh!

I have a PO box, my mail has never been tampered with. What about getting a PO box for personal mail? Since it seems as though it is the carrier since you do get things at work ok.

Hopefully only the time changed not the SERVICE. The route that your address is on may have changed. They are constantly changing and adding to them, you may have been added to the end of one. On a given day I have 300-700 stops, someone has to be first and someone has to be last. Layoffs have not occurred but they are NOT hiring career employees, only temporary ones. so for every retirement we are down another route. When I hired in 3.5 years ago, there were about 225 carriers, now there are only about 180. I don't see where they can layoff any carriers, don't know about clerks or mailhandlers but I doubt it.

Yeah, it's more reasonable that the time of year is the reason, as rose13 explained above.
Thanks for the additional info. This is good to know.

I am pretty sure that someone who supports a family with their job would not risk it for a feminie hygiene sample. . Samples come through in incredible volumes. These things pass through extremely high speed equipment, and there are some casualties. Carriers have to deliver the empty box. It should be endorsed 'received damaged/without contents', something along those lines. BTW, samples that are not deliverable (due to vacant home) are collected and distributed to appropriate charites by employees in my office, all on their own time.

I never knew this and makes me feel good about what happens to those items. Thanks for sharing!
