Smile Thanks to a freebie here, my photo may win $25k!

A few months ago, someone posted a freebie for a $30 photobook from Shutterfly. All you had to do to get the coupon was to upload a photo to Dare Food's "Grab Life by the Tastebuds" website. Well, I really wanted that freebie- and didn't really put any time or effort into my photo selection.

Would you believe that my selection is now a top 10 finalist?! And, the winner gets $25,000! I can't find the original post, but I'd love to thank the OP!

I don't normally visit this part of mycoupons, but I wanted to share my excitement and this seemed like the most appropriate place to do so. Hope it's okay!

Renee

Thanks, Cuthie!

I wasn't sure what the mycoupons rule was about begging for votes for personal gain. And, since I've probably saved even more on these boards over the last 9 years than I stand to win- well, I didn't want to break any rules!

I'm just in shock that a freebie could yield some seriously real results! I was just so happy about that $30 gift that I got for free. I made a memento of my nephews' birthday party at the minor league ballpark as a Christmas gift for them.

That's great news! I'd love to see the photo, too. Who couldn't use an extra $25K with this economy? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Good luck!

Sometimes it seems like the things that we put the least effort into are the things that pan out the most...

Congratulations! You must be so happy that you got this far! Crossing my fingers that your photo is selected as the winner! Please update us!

People have posted in the past to "vote for my son", etc. I don't think it is against any rules. Post the link so we can all go vote for you!!

How about a link to the photo so we can "see" it??? surely there is some loophole we could find??? I know I have seen other things on here that are not in the rules..... a request for money for something comes to mind.....don't remember the exact post.

I'll see if I can contact admin about adding voting request to the sweeps board. I removed the link for now, because it isn't fair to others who have not posted when trying to follow the rules, or for those who did post and had them removed. I have no doubt that a few have slipped through the cracks because they were missed, but ignoring one viewed would be unfair to all posters. All posts are not read since we only have a few mods.

I'd like to see a vote request myself.....please know that I have BEEN in voting contests and have won them as well and never been able to post them here, my favorite community. No one is a greater supporter than me!

I think that's a great idea, especially in light of this post, where the OP posted a link to a monetary donation sight.
My Son & His Girlfriend Were Ran Over :(

The OP of this thread is just wanting to share her good news and hope for a few votes, no money involved.

Good Luck OP.

tessa67 - posting direct information to find the contest is the same as posting the link. I haven't closed this thread because I am trying to get permission to open a voting place. Until then, we should all be mindful of the rules set, which includes me not posting my link to my voting contest when I have one. I'm hoping we get an okay soon. The mods are lining up in support of this, so I will keep you posted.

I agree, which is why the post remains. Her intent was to share her good news and she was respectful of the rules here. Bravo to her...I really hope she wins and I hope this brings about a change that we can have a place to request votes.

I think it is better to allow a 'Please Vote for me" thread than it is to allow a "Please send money" thread.

A vote doesn't cost anything and no one gets scammed.

A thread pleading for money "could" be a scam.

I am not saying the one mentioned was a scam.
I think there was a person who made up stories to get things on the old board.

I agree.

I really hope this thread brings attention to our desire to support each other. I'm very much in favor of that and would love to be a part of helping a friend win something. What could be better!

That Renee from Ohio certainly has a great eye for photography.

And, that guy with the baby seal certainly isn't doing it any favors because the parent might abandon it after the human contact. Sad.

Thank you guys so much for all of the positive comments and support. This entire process is just so surreal!

MapleLaine- I appreciate your position and I also hope that the rules will be re-evaluated. I can definitely understand the rules being as they are now- no one wants a board filled with page after page of requests for online votes. However, being a finalist for a 25K prize, and having a 1-10 chance of winning it doesn't happen very often! If I can be of any help, or if you need me to edit any of my comments, please let me know.

This is a great community, and we all want it to be the best that it can possibly be. Even if I don't win the big money, I'll still have very positive feelings about the whole experience.

Just posting to give this thread some closure. Unfortunately, I won't be posting any photos of a $25,000 check. I still really appreciate the well wishes, crossed fingers and support of everyone that took the time to seek out the contest and vote for me. You guys made me feel great!

The winning photo was actually my personal favorite, my own bias excluded. Hey, at least it wasn't the seal guy!

So, in the end- I finish with the freebie I signed up for and a really great feeling of community! Not bad at all.

I posted a voting request in my signature line last year, and was promptly asked to remove it. Unlike Renee, it didn't even cross my mind that I was breaking the rules. At the time, I was told that they were thinking of adding a *vote for* section. Since then, I've see 2 or 3 others that were permitted to be posted.
