Arrow HELP! Static in hair - What to do???

My 5 year old always has static in her hair!! I have used de-frizz products, conditioners, hairspray, etc... you name it, I have likely tried it...I am about to wash it right now, it will always look shiny and clean..until morning comes!! I comb it ( and tried brushing),and it looks like she has stuck her finger in a light socket.. It' terrible..I'm at my wits-end here! Every morning, by the time we get to the bus stop, it looks like her hair has not been washed or combed in a month..
Please help! Does anyone know of anything I can do to reduce the static in her hair?

All I can think of would be to try to use gel or mousse in it to give the hair some weight.

It seems like I've read tips of people running Bounce fabric softener sheets through hair??

There is a canned product called Static Guard. It's meant for clothing.

How about washing her hair in the morning instead of at night?

I have tried a variety of mousse & gels..no luck yet with those...Just today my mom suggested the Static Guard and I said perhaps a dryer sheet, we just don't know if it would cause any type of damage to her hair...but in the morning, I am going to try rubbing a fabric sheet over it. I don't think that will hurt her hair....She hs a part in her Christmas Play at school on the 17th...I gotta find a solution..and besides - she shocks me every dang time she touches me lol..

* As for washing hair in the mornings - we get up, dress and have to be at the bus stop at 7am, so that would be nearly impossible...We already get up at 6am now.

Spray 'Static Guard' on the brush before you brush her hair -- works like a charm for me.

I've used those Bounce sheets! I have also used it on my fax machine when the pages start sticking together. One quick wipe will do it!

I would try the dryer sheet and see what happens. I read once that dry air in the house can cause static. You could try using a dehumidifier in her room. Or put a little bit of hairspray on a hairbrush and brush the hair. A girl I used to work with swore she used to rub an ice cube over her hair to get the static to go away. Strange, but I thought I'd pass it on! ~Lisa

I'll try a dryer sheet in the morning (wondering though - Does it have to be Bounce?)..I will go pick up a can of the Static Guard tomorrow!!
I've tried using hairspray on the hair brush - it didn't work for me..The post I just read by "icansavedaily" had some useful tips.... this is what it says about static in hair ...

" Stop Static Cling in Hair: If your hair has static cling during the winter, rinse your hair in Downy instead of your normal conditioner. It gets rid of the static cling and feels and smells good. It is also works well to rinse your hairbrushes with it." Terri, OK

At this point, I'm willing to try just about anything..Thanks so much for all of your suggestions!!

I've used dryer sheets before. It's doesn't have to be Bounce. Just rub it around her head a bit; it should work fine. I've done the same thing for static cling, like when your skirt is sticking to your nylons. It looks weird rubbing your legs with a dryer sheet, but hey, it works.

I have fine, thin hair that is has a lot of static in the winter. I spray my comb and brush with static guard. It works! I have also used dryer sheets. I keep them in my car for this reason during the winter. One quick, light swipe and the static is gone.

Yep, that's what we use, too. It works beautifully.

Rub some hand lotion onto the palms of your hands then run your hands down the length of DD's hair without actually touching her hair. You do not have to touch the hair for this to work! I do this when I'm out and develop static in my hair.

Try leaving some conditioner in her hair, so it doesn't get so dry.

Spraying static guard on brush or comb usually works but if it doesn't spray some static guard on her pillow.
