Yes unless the driver is a jerk or drives crazily you should tip him. Many people rely on their tips. I would not think of leaving at least a 20% tip at a restaurant or salon or whatever. A taxi driver generally will have a nice conversation with you and carry your bags. Have a great trip and don't get winterburn.

Yes, I would tip a taxi driver. Usually 15% or so - whatever rounds up nicely. Extra if there's a lot of baggage handling required. cj/

I agree with everyone else - I always tip - One time I didn't was when we were in Vegas and the driver decided to take the "scenic" route. The $$$ I would have tipped went toward the extra fair. I did tell him why I didn't tip. He was not to happy.

but I don't really know for sure ). But does it really cost that much for one ? Are you going a long way from the airport to the hotel ?. Seems that $$ would take you halfway across my state LOL. |

The only cabbies I'd stiff on a tip would be the ones that take the *scenic route* despite my instructions to take a different route. This seems to occur more often when I am alone than when I am with dh, it really torques my jaw. Nowadays anyone can check out routes ahead of time online, so even if they've never been to a city before, they can still not go into it cold. I lived in cabs in NYC many moons ago and learned to appreciate the cabbies that used to scare me to death cuz I was never more than a hair's breadth away from a serious <ahem> *incident, and never in any type of accident. It really does take mastering some difficult skills to be a good cabbie, and I love the great ones. Remember: you may not remember the cabbie you stiffed on a tip today, but if you ever return to his turf, he *will* remember *you*. Cabbies are like elephants: they never forget ;-) MZ |
