Rum balls and eggnog Question

Do you like your rum balls mild, medium or don't drive after eating one.
Someone asked me today why they call eggnog "eggnog" ,like you are going to get it confused with some other nog. The next ? was are there any other nogs? I just know someone knows the answer to this question.

Personally I do know alot of people love to drink eggnog, not me, however it is very popular with alot of people whom enjoy it at the holidays, I do not drink, so excuse me but do people mix the eggnog with rum or any other type of alcohol, just wondering. Peace in this holiday season.. Catherine

I'm not a big fan of eggnog, but my Dad used to make it on Christmas Eve when we were opening our presents. . . with lots of rum and nutmeg on top. Yummmy! I guess that answers your rum ball question too. . . I like the can't drive after eating kind.

Medium rum balls here, too. In fact, I will be making these tomorrow. I bought some mason jars today to store them in. They really get potent when you store them in a closed glass container.

I love egg nog, and can drink it just "as is". Many that I know add some rum to it.

I don't like rum balls and don't know anyone who does so they're never on the menu. We will be having eggnog, though.

An article[1] by Nanna Rögnvaldsdóttir, an Icelandic food expert, states that the drink adopted the nog part of its name from the word noggin, a Middle English phrase used to describe a small, wooden, carved mug used to serve alcohol. Another name for this English drink was Egg Flip. Yet another story is that the term derived from the name egg-and-grog, a common Colonial term used to describe rum. Eventually the term was shortened to egg'n'grog, then eggnog[citation needed].
One guess where that came from. I like any alcoholic dessert, though I don't drink too much otherwise. The world needs more brandy beans . . .

LOL,This reminds me of the time my Aunt made "rum balls"
Little history about my aunt. She has never taken a drink in her life and she didn't cook at that time in her life. so keep this in mind.

She made the rum balls per the directions, but I guess since she's never dranked b4 she didn't know just how much rum would really stand out. Well later that night when we all sat down for the Christmas party , O f course we all wanted to try these "rum balls" my non drinking non cooking aunt had made. WOWS !! They were so strong we all had to spit them out , When we asked how much rum did you put in these she said 1 bottle . She said she wanted the rum flavor to really come thru ..

This has been some 20+ years ago and yep you know we still have to tease her about no trying her hand at the rum balls.

I like rum balls but with rum flavoring vs rum itself. Since you don't cook the rum balls the taste is really too strong for me.
I also LOVE LOVE LOVE eggnog. Plain, spiced, doctored you name it.
I like mine with rum, whiskey, or crown ( usually its crown ).

P.s Icansave, Yes there's different nogs out there,
There's pumpkin spice eggnog, It doesn't taste to me like any eggnog I have ever tried. Also there's flavored nogs too , spiced, vanilla etc.

Funny, I'm the opposite of a lot of people. I love rum & bourbon mixed with diet coke (1 or the other, not both together!). In fact, that's what I drink more than anything.

Rum balls are ok.

I LOVE eggnog - but I don't like any alcohol in it. My recipe calls for rum & bourbon both, I just put extra milk in. I definately prefer eggnog to be "virgin".

I don't know why!?
