A Potluck is scheduled this Fri..when do you want to be warned ?

We have a potluck dinner this Friday for a club I belong to. No one has been "warned" yet..so they can plan and cook, buy ingrediants. I finally called the chair to tell her, she said it is " still not too late to cal and remind "..I think it is..what do you think ?

oh yes, I would have wanted to know about 2 weeks ago, one week ago at the least. At this time of year, people are just WAY too busy to have something sprung on them.

If not much food shows up, she can't be surprised.

Way too late. I think you need at least one weekend between the warning and the event.

If someone calls me at 10pm the night before, I can make it happen on my end. Even if I know 2 weeks prior, I will still wait until the last minute to run to the store or dig in my freezer or pantry.

Some people could probably still pull something together, but it most likely won't be the type of item they would have brought had they been given appropriate notice. I would bring something like BBQ meatbals in a crock pot with only a couple days notice - if I went at all.

You might want to put someone else in charge next time!

I would want a minimum of one week notice, but preferably two weeks.

However, I can pull something together with 24 hours notice.

Wink

I agree its late however you still have a few days for someone to put something together.I do all the food shopping for my parents and go there every sunday and cook 4 or 5 meals all at one time, so I am used to it. However some people like and need more advance notice which is fine. Sincerely hope all works out good luck.. Peace and stay safe in this holiday season. Catherine

This is me too. I would like at least a week, but I could pull something together on short notice. It would probably be something like a fruit or veggie tray though, or a dessert. . .pretty easy to make brownies or something.

I would definetely call everyone today. And while you have them on the phone, see if people feel ok with still being able to make it happen. If not enough people can do it, then cancel.

At this time of year I would appreciate knowing at least the Friday before because maybe the weekend is the only time I have to plan and pick up groceries.
If it was not Holiday time I would be happy knowing Monday.

We have a potluck on Friday too. Notices (e-mail) and online sign-ups were sent out about 3 weeks ago. I don't know how you have a successful potluck without some heads-up and collecting some notion of what people are bringing and filling in the gaps (but I am sort of a planner kind of person ). Good luck - hope it works out!

I would want at least a week. I like to get the items when I'm at the store - having to make a special trip would irritate me. I prefer to have the time to decide on something and actually plan for it.

I totally agree! My aunt has not let me know what to bring on Christmas Day but my friend who is having a party on Dec. 27 told me last night what she wants me to bring. A special trip irritates the crap out of me too!
