We Are Expecting An Ice Storm

I am still baking cookies and have not been able to work this week in the field. It is difficult to work from home sigh.
We are expecting either freezing rain or snow the weathermen are not sure.
I just spoke to the lady at the garbage company to pay my bill she told me the street out in front there is just one big sheet of ice--Glenwood Blvd it's a main arterial road in Eugene. Yikes!
As long as the electricity and my DirectTV and phone and internet work I am fine. I am still working on my Christmas cookies today should be the last day and then my cards. I must be getting old this used to take a lot fewer days.

My poor husband has to get up at 4 and drive at 5. He works with those who clear the roads so there will NEVER be a day when the weather allows him to stay home.

This was supposed to be a mild winter I think the Farmer's Almanac said. They are usually right.
I am scared for all the homeless people and those who cannot turn the heat up all the way. I hope that all of you here are safe and sound and comfortable.

We've had negative temperatures since Friday or Saturday. And I mean negative temperatures as the HIGHS! It's suppose to get all the way up to 10 degrees above 0 today! Whoo hoo! We're having a heat wave.

Oh, and another blast of artic air is coming in tomorrow (probably the same one you're getting today OP since we're due East of you...) w/ more snow. We have a better than average shot of a white Christmas here in the valley.

We had an ice storm last Friday. Some parts of the state still don't have electricity. Today we are getting a light snowstorm (4-7 inches). I guess most people wouldn't consider 4-7 inches a *light* snowstorm, but after living in Maine all my life....snow is just part of life. It doesn't slow many folks down. The kids were hoping for a snow day, but no such luck.

Yeah, I just got out of a meeting with a woman who has been without electricity, heat, and water (they have a well)....and toilets flushing, etc....for 6 days now. Thank goodness for the lockerrooms here at the plant. She is bringing her kids to work to shower, too!

We get a couple days of nice before the crap hits us. We got 4 inches of snow yesterday and I am still amazed at all the accidents. We all (well most of us) grew up with this weather why do people "forget" how to drive in it?

We were supposed to get an ice storm but we didn't, we just got a little bit of ice. Today is the first day it has gotten about freezing in several days. It has been so cold and so windy, the temps have been 15 and 16 and the wind chills 3 and 6 degrees, just way colder than what we are used to here in OK. We have the next 3 days above freezing then we get hit again with cold weather, the storm you are getting now will reach us by then. We are supposed to get ice and snow on Sunday. We lost heat on Monday, something wrong with the furnace, so with space heaters, the oven, bathroom heater, we were able to keep the temp at 50 in the house so the pipes wouldn't freeze until Tuesday when the guy came out to fix the furnace. I have had it jacked up to 75 since then, normally I am very conservative and have it on 65, but after being cold, I don't care anymore, LOL. This last storm moved in fast on Sunday afternoon, it was 80 degrees outside (yes 80) , I was outside cleaning the pool and DH and DD were outside pitching and about 3:00pm, all of a sudden the wind started blowing and the temp dropped about 20 degrees in a matter of 5 minutes then it just went downhill from there, the low that night went to the teens in just a matter of hours.

We got 4 inches of snow yesterday. Another storm on Thursday night, one more on the weekend. All dumping snow. I hate winter with a passion.

We haven't had anything serious YET, but the schools did have a 2 hour delay this morning after some snow and sleeting last night.

I do have a bit of concern though for the rest of the winter here. As I opened my front door the other day to retrieve the Sunday paper from the front step, there on the porch was a big "black" Wolly Worm. I have always heard and so has everyone I talked to that seeing a "black" Wolly worm was a sign of a harsh winter. I guess we will see but I hope the little booger was sending some misinformation. But just in case, I'm going to fill the gas can for the generator.

Stay warm and safe everyone and have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

We just got our electricity back Sunday. It was out since Thursday. We had a bad ice storm here. Today we had about 4 inches but Friday we are suppose to get 10 to 14 inches. Our streets are not clear yet with all the downed trees and wires. We have a well and we loose our toilets. Sunday and Monday we are to get another storm. They are expecting a snow storm here x-mas eve or x-mas day. There are 33,000 people still without electrical in Mass and 70,000 in New Hampshire. nancy

My thoughts are with all of you in New England still without power. Those ice storms are devastating! We got 13 inches of snow here on Sunday and woke up Tuesday to a temp of -24 degrees...with a windchill of -38...ummm, brr!

Living in Maine also. Still some people without it here. We lost our power for like a day and a half. No fun. Still so many trees and wires down. Then today it snowed and they are expecting more Friday. Good thing we just got our propane delivery!

Everyone stay safe!

South of us, they are expecting an ice storm today, but we will be getting at least 6 inches of snow..could be up to 12. Starting in late afternoon.
I am out the door to work. I have to go to Central Wisconsin, so I want to get there and get back as soon as possible.

I HATE this weather with a passion.I got frostbite (I think) on my fingertips two weeks ago when I did some community service for the Chamber of Commerce. I stood out in the wind and snow at night for the lighting of the Christmas tree in our park. I only had on my Isotoner gloves (duh!) and my hands got wayyy too cold. They are now peeling on the fingertips all of the time (the skin) and I am freaking out. It's sooo gross! (sorry, hope you weren't having morning breakfast while reading this).
But seriously, why I say this is because everyone who is in this extreme weather stay bundled up! Don't underestimate what this cold can do. I did, and now I am paying for it (numb fingertips, et al).

BUT on Satuday it's off to Cali I go!!

TO SNOW!!!

My sis told me it is because we are coming to town that we are bringing the Chicago snow and bad weather with us to sunny Southern Cali.
She may have a point. Back in 99 (on our last visit) we passed through Las Vegas on the way to Cali, and it flooded the next day. We then passed back through Vegas on our way home..and it flooded again the next day.

I am going to be banned from the Western States soon.

Shoot me now.

Well, we're getting the ice storm at this very minute. I haven't looked outside yet but in listening to what the tv is saying as they break into programing with updates, it sure don't sound good. It's now 2:00 am and this storm is supposed to continue well into later morning hours. I just pray we don't loose power. But thank goodness I filled the gas can today for the generator. I wish I had thought about kerosene to fuel the heaters because I'm not sure if there's any in the garage.
I DO VERY MUCH HATE WINTER.

Well we never really got a "storm" per se. It did snow last night and there is about 4 inches of "dust" on the ground.
It's around 30 so not cold. The weatherman keeps saying this or that is going to happen and it doesn't.
