I just noticed this as well (ok, once I read the thread, lol)

I liked adding positive rep to others, but am ok with it being gone since it was such a problem for a few

Yet another example of bending to the people who can't play nice and who make the most noise. I thought it was a reasonable system for newcomers especially to get a feel for the place and to encourage people to add value rather than add noise. I loved giving positive rep points as I typically find something to agree with and appreciate in almost everyone's post at one point or another.

Susie: Hey Sally - what have you accomplished in your life?
Sally: Well, I squeaked and squawked and made a big nuisance of myself and got the rules of an internet coupon board changed.
Susie: Wow! I'm impressed.

But whatever....MC makes the rules. We play by them.

I am not trying to be a pest, but want to ask you as a moderator, why one person and their behavior is allowed to change the way the board has been set up for a long, long time? As most of us are moms, we know better than to give in to the misbehaving child, don't we?

So basically we all have to be punished for the misbehavior and immaturity of a few...

How 3rd grade is that? Even Sister Mary Helen John (yep, her real name) gave the class a second chance.

Not being a pest ask away

As a mod, we do not make these decisions. The decision was made, and we were told right before the change. I assume that it had to deal with not just some of the issues recently posted, but also with the fact that for many the rep point system did not work properly.

Interesting.

I couldnt care less about the rep points system. It seemed to be something that some folks like to abuse. If they didnt agree with your opinion they would neg. rep you. Everyone has difference of opinions, thats what makes this world so great. Just cause someone sees something differenly than I did, i didnt neg. rep them but some folks did.Kinda childish in my eyes.
Now the election board is gone. wonder what will go next. reckon we should all say our byes to each other before this board vanishes? I am a member of various boards and this is the ONLY board that just deletes stuff without asking the members. The other boards care what their members think and always ask before deleting boards and such. Not here. Here one minute , gone the next is this boards moto

the whole "rep" point w/ comments allowed members to verbally attack and harass other members. That way, those members who verbally attacked others in "private" were able to maintain their public image of nice, calm, normal and sane.

My opinion is if you wouldn't say something in a post for the whole world to read, what makes it ok to say it in privately?
Frankly, I don't give a rip about the rep points---if you gauge your worth or value based on some anonymous comments on an internet message board, then you have some serious self esteem issues.

I will miss it, it was fun. I only negged one person, ever. I still kind of regret it. ...well, kind of. But it did bother me that I was that upset that I felt the need to do that, and for that reason I would think about it every now and then.

However, the positives I would leave, left ME feeling good, even if the other person didn't really care either way.

I think it's funny that they removed it because of people complaining. Oh my feelings are hurt. Well I feel physically ill every time someone posts an ignorant post. Can we please ban all ignorance from the forum too?

ignorance-I don't have a problem with. Ignorance simply means a person doesn't know, but can learn.

Stupid-I have a problem with. Stupid means that they either know, but don't care; or that they don't know, but they refuse to learn.

Exactly, I never used it either.

I don't need someone scoring my posts, it just causes more trouble than it's worth.

The way the board was going I thought it was on it's way to being banned again anyway. It's getting out of control IMO. In the beginning everyone was nice but that has worn off again.

You know something the rep system is gone, yet the same 3 ladies are still looking to start trouble , even when christmas is right around the corner, how truly sad, will it ever end, I guess not. However, I know who the ladies are and I sincerely know who wants to post something about me. Why are you hiding, better yet just plain stop looking for trouble. How truly sad and pathetic. Catherine

No one is trying to cause trouble ILL is paranoid, or perhaps it is she who is aiming to cause trouble.

Ummm, I am using the ignore option....but it doesn't work because everyone (numbering far more than three) keeps quoting the ones I've chosen to ignore.

Ya know? I didn't see any CATTY remarks.
I see people making comments and observations, but nothing nasty or rude or hateful until ILL started in....
I do have her on ignore. And by and large, I do ignore her. As I am sure others have me on ignore....

How long do you ignore your child's inappropriate behaviour? At what point do you finally say something when people keep cutting in front of you in line? When is enough, enough? Why should someone be allowed to misuse, abuse and not follow basic internet etiquette rules? When do you step up and say something?

Seriously? I'm sure ILL is a lovely person in real life. I haven't a doubt that she's sincere and caring. But....she's presented herself so poorly here, I have a hard time figuring out what she even is saying.

Can I say I postive repped you mentally about 100 times for this?

I've never understood why some people don't understand that always ignoring negative behavior is nothing more than enabling it.

Thank you, brownsugargirl, for pointing out the obvious.
Only the CADDY ones will not do this, because it would be taking away their fun.

You're right. But if they ignored her, then they couldn't bully her, which they seem to take great delight in doing. I think Catherine needs to just ignore them. Put them on ignore, or, at least, don't give them the cheap thrill they get out of an answer.

Perhaps we need a definition of what constitutes negative behavior. I think there's a disagreement on who it really is that's behaving badly around here.

You're never going to get an entire room to agree on one thing or a solid definition. There's always going to be room for misinterpretations and different interpretations. Even if there's just 2 people that disagree with a definition, that's still 2 people.

Most folks I've known in my life have had patience and kindness for errors. We're all human, mistakes will happen, that part is understood. It's when the errors happen multitudes of times, that they might lose some of their patience and get harsh.

As far as the "who" part, it's come from both sides of the coin, not just one.

I agree wholeheartedly. This is really a nice and very caring group of women here without exception. I think some who are normally patient and very kind have become flustered and said or done things that they would not normally in the face of those "multitudes of times". For that, speaking for myself, I apologize and will try to do better.

I don't disagree. That's exactly what I meant. However, there is that lovely "ignore" option which would be far smarter to pick than continuing to beat up on one person because some people don't like her grammar. FWIW, I've got at least one of them on ignore because I think she's a nasty piece of business. Sure, I occasionally have to read her posts because someone quotes her, but overall it's made my life more pleasant to generally skip her rantings.

Truble - C'mon on, this has not been just about grammar and spelling. Not at all.

Really? What else is Catherine being beat up about? Please be more specific, then, because from what I'm reading, it's all about a few holier-than-thou posters picking on someone because they don't like the way she writes things.

I've recently seen some poster(s) take a "break" from the boards when the heat was actually on them.

But then it's back to business (or lynching) as usual.

I've also seen that threads like this one motivate people to parade out their very best cut and paste skills (wow - three in one post!) as well as those who can incorporate exciting animated graphics.

And not least of all, there are the ones whose names come up suddenly (or way more frequently) when there is someone to gang up on...

If you recognize yourself in any of the above descriptors, then maybe it's time to find yourself another path to peace, joy and goodwill this season...

Or perhaps a little extra eggnog?

I am saddened by what I've read above. None of our members have done anything that deserves this singling out and mistreatment.

You feel ignoring something is enabling it, but being cruel, making fun, etc makes it better, HELPS negative behavior???? (For what it's worth, I don't see ilovelucy's behavior as negative, using Mallerie's description)

I tried to post last night before I went to bed, even though I was logged on, it wouldn't let me reply, but I am glad to read the responses posted since then, and I am thankful that cj has apologized and said she'd try to do better. We could and can all do better.

No, I don't think being cruel, making fun, etc. helps negative behavior. I never said anywhere that I did or even imply it.

How come you don't mention the kind comments, nice suggestions, etc, that have been given? Since you didn't ask, I'll tell you I do believe in those.

"Ignoring" isn't ALWAYS the best track to follow. It can't always be the only option. Why ever ban anyone then, right? Just make everyone put a person on ignore. I would imagine as grown ups, we've all been in a situation where the (offliine) "ignore" feature doesn't work. Hell, I've seen discussions here about personal situations where it doesn't work. I guess that was the basic point I was trying to make. It doesn't always work.

I'm not so much on a "side" but, I've seen both sides act ridiculous, be cruel and make fun. When a person isn't so involved, it's a lot easier to see the "middle".
