Indoor Allergies

Out of the blue, I have developed, what I believe to be are indoor allergies. I have ITCHY!!!! eyes, and rapid fire machine gun sneezing attacks! Some days are worse than others, even when I don't leave the house.. When my eyes itch then the inside of my mouth itches and I swear, my skin itches! it will flair up, drive me crazy for 15 mins, then subside. I run two humidifiers and that seems it help. Any diagnosis? Any meds that won't that don't make you goofy feeling?
I'm scared to take any thing for fear it will make me feel strange, I'm a little prone to that
I'd love a home remedy for my poor eyes! Help??

I get that. We've had our cat for 9 years and I think about 2 years ago I became allergic to him. We live together, but I can't hold or pet him. For my eyes, I just take my makeup off, get a wash cloth with warm water and rub them until they feel better. When it's really bad, I will go without makeup for a couple days on the weekend, if I can. That seems to help a little. When I can't stand it anymore, I take Benadryl. It seems to help.

Do you have a real Christmas tree? Or, a fresh flower arrangement that has Christmas greenery in it?
Prescription Patanol eyedrops help tremendously. Seriously, you've been feeling this way for a while and haven't taken any OTC meds? I take generic Zyrtec and DD takes generic Claritin. I also take generic Benadryl as needed. Daily allergy meds aren't going to make you feel goofy. However, it sounds as if your symptoms are advanced and a daily med may take several days to get the maximum relief. If you stay home, you could take Benadryl or Alka Seltzer plus used to work well for me. If nothing else, take Benadryl or some type of antihistamine at bedtime.

I have allergies but only in the winter!! Doctor says I'm allergic to pine/evergreen trees. That's when they release their allergens. So it could be you have the same type allergy.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

I take Claritin as does my DS. We are both allergic to just about everything with fur and I am allergic to pollen. I sometimes get indoor allergies when I am visiting other people. I'm not sure if it's excessive dust (I'm not a neat freak so my house has dust) or mold spores or what. I just take a claritin before I got visit anyone. Makes it easier. You need to stop suffering!

I don't know if I have something like that now. The doctor doesn't know. She thinks it is an allergy to something, but for a couple weeks I was having sneezing, runny nose, headaches, and sinus pressure. Now my eye has been red and really swollen for the last couple days. That & no one being in for the holidays is what made me go to the doc. She ask me if I got a tree or poinsetta for xmas. I didn't. She recommended mucinex, zicam, and loratadine (allergy med). Geez, all but the allergy med is expensive, so I am starting with the mucinex first. I have been using the neti pot. It helps for a few minutes, but then am right back with the pain. I am also doing eye drops, but nothing seems to be helping. She said call her back next week if things don't subside and she will give antibiotics. I hope the suggestions people give will help you find something to use. Merry Christmas All!

OMG, I am having the same symptoms -- especially the "rapid fire machine gun sneezing attacks"! It's driving me crazy. I will sneeze 7 or 8 times in a row with no warning.

I have never had this problem before. I am on a bunch of medications so I have to be very careful in taking OTC meds like Benadryl

Wonder what the heck is going on?

I don't know about the Zicam, however, the loratadine and Mucinex is available in generic. I took loratadine for a while and switched to generic Zyrtec when it became OTC and it helps me much more.

Today is a freakish warm day so today the windows are open! and I'm hoping that the fresh air helps!

OP, if you belong to a warehouse club you can get the Loratidine really cheap. DH buys 300 tablets @ Costco for less than $20. I know Sam's also has their store brand of 10mg Loratidine for about the same price.

Hope you find some relief soon. I think the warm washcloth idea and the neti pot were both excellent suggestions.
