What's this on my son's face?

Well, he got a cut on his face, and it looked infected, so I took him to the doctor. She prescribed Bactroban and the skin started to heal, but now it has a rash of red bumps all around it. Any ideas on what it is, or are we headed back to the doctor? Thanks, all!

sounds like maybe he is allergic to the Bactroban? I would call the doctor tomorrow.

could be an allergic type /contact dermatitis type thing.
but, call the MD you don't want to risk cellulitis.

ETA: are you using any sort of bandage in conjuction w/ the ointment? It could be a reaction or allergy to the bandage as well.
Also, if it's truly an allergic reaction, you will probably need to watch him very carefully in the future for allergic reactions to oral antibiotics.

I'm agreeing with the allergic reaction opinions. My d/s had a similar event--mark on the face, went to the doctor, she thought it could be staph, used meds & it seemed to clear up, then worsen. When we went back, she said he was clearly allergic & changed the topical treatment. That cleared it up, and we will not use it again. (Can't remember the name--it's on my med history card for the kids in my wallet & I'm too darn lazy to get it!)

Hope he is better soon.
