Hmmm doesn't say if he was with her when she fell.

Sure sounds suspicious. And, I ALWAYS think of the husband whenever a woman goes missing.

But, in all fairness, they were on a cruise. I wouldn't think my husband would be "screaming for help" unless he had seen me go over. We were on a cruise in August and we often went our separate ways because our interests are not always the same. For instance, one night, he went to play poker and I went to another activity. I didn't go back to our cabin after my show. I decided to lay down on a deck chair and listen to the music, the water, and watch the moon. I fell asleep on the deck and the sun woke me up. I am sure he got up at some point to pee and probably noted I wasn't there. But, he isn't a worrier and I wouldn't have married a worrier. I am a big girl. It works for us.

So, I won't be surprised if he helped her over the side. But, the fact that he didn't think to alert anyone he couldn't find her isn't a big deal to me. Seriously, my husband wouldn't have mentioned my absence to anyone until he realized I wasn't there for coffee and fruit on the balcony.

What is strange, too, is that the cruise surveillance cameras saw her fall and yet they continued sailing away. From what I've read, she was in her bathrobe when she fell.

I think it's strange that hubby didn't report her missing till 8 hours later, too. Guess he didn't think about surveillance cameras catching her fall. (unless he wasn't in the room at the time and didn't realize it till then). But after he reported her missing, he went off to gamble at the casino!! Now that's strange!

They were celebrating their one year wedding anniversary.

Her parents issued a statement on the news. They said they are a happy couple and that their daughter had issues in the past and that she might have taken the easy way out. How sad.

As for the cameras. I doubt anyone is watching them as they record. I bet there are 100's of cameras on a big cruise ship that are just there to review later if shenanagans happen. And, the cameras might prove he was somewhere else when she went over. Time will tell....

The gambling bit is a bit odd, but did he know she had gone over the side when he went to gamble? Or, at that point was she just missing. If it were my husband, he would have been mad I was off somewhere without telling him. I am sure the last thing he would have thought of was that I was injured. Perhaps they had an open marriage and he thought she might have hooked up with someone .... we just don't know at this point.

I don't find him not reporting her as strange as I find him going to play slots after he KNEW she was missing and they saw someone failing from the side of the ship. Now that is strange to me. I know my husband probably would n't report me either esp if they had actives I enjoyed doing. But then again I really doubt me and hubby would be apart for that long anyway.
However this might be part of their normal lifestyle to be apart off doing what they enjoy doing even if they are "together". Who knows what their marriage was really about. I'm sure we'll find out more as time goes on.

Wow...I just read the article. Sounds a little strange to me. The part about the hubby talking with another passenger after his wife was missing and saying that he was hoping his luck changed really gave made me stop and wonder???

We just got off our cruise ship today. We were laying on the lido deck when this came on the big screen. Everyone blammed the hubby right away in our group. It would be VERY hard to fall off by yourself. My girlfriend called me this AM to see if it happened on our ship. No it didn't be the way.

I think people would be amazed at where all they are being videotaped. Most major retailers have every aisle on camera, all cash registers on camera, all entrances/exits on camera; not to mention the back room/stock room.

As far as him playing the slots and saying he hoped his luck changed--people all grieve differently. Plus, who's to say that he wasn't just keeping busy and trying not to focus on his loss??

DH and I have been on many cruises, we are normally together. But if we do go separate ways it would only be a couple hours at most. And we would always know where the other was. So it sounds strange to me.

Several things in this article make me say hmmm:

Quote:
Raymond Seitz was arrested in April on a charge of domestic violence-battery after being accused of head-butting his wife.
Quote:
A fellow passenger on the ship, Jim Nestor, told NBC's Today show that Seitz and her new husband stood out on the ship with "large and raw personalities."
Quote:
A surveillance camera showed someone falling overboard at 8 p.m. Christmas night, authorities said. About eight hours later, Raymond Seitz reported his wife missing.
I think eight night time hours is a long time on a cruise ship. If it were morning, it wouldn't be as alarming but this happened after dark so most people wouldn't have waited so long to worry about their spouse. Raymond was arrested for domestic violence before and a charge of violence is at least a red flag if his wife dies. It's been my experience that people with "large and raw personalities" are very volatile and volatile people don't always handle conflict well. It's another red flag.

The clincher (for me) is the last quote.

Quote:
Nestor, who appeared on the game show with his own wife, said he ran into Raymond Seitz day after his wife was reported missing. "I had given him my condolences, and he had a plastic bag filled with quarters, and he said to me that he was going to the casino to see if he could change his luck," Nestor said."
I think this one's almost funny. It reminds me of the old saying "I want to grieve in Tahiti".

I too thought about the arrest, but then again maybe his wife is a drama queen and it wasn't as bad as it sounds. Or maybe they got into a fight and head butting was the only way he had to get her off him. It's always easier for a man to be arrested for the same crimes a woman does and gets away with. So I can't really say this " grabbed me".. also I too wondered about the term " "large and raw personalities " To me, this means 2 people that talk strongly to each other 'as in no respect for each other or the people around them'. Very loud with their words and want to be seen or make a scene.
It's strange that their respect for each other was like this after only a year of marriage. Heck been married 13 years and I still find it hard to say what I'm really thinking when Dh gets on my last nerve while in public.
But I do agree something just isn't right with this picture.

I guess people do grieve differently, but in all honesty...playing the slots would be the last thing most people would do after just finding out that your spouse had died. I would like to think that most people would at least take a little time to mourn their spouse, not be at a casino hoping to *change their luck*.

More than eight hours lapsed between the time Ellis-Seitz fell from the ship and when her husband, Raymond Seitz, reported her missing. But Ellis-Seitz's family said they don't suspect foul play, because she suffered from emotional problems and may have committed suicide.

I heard much the same on the news, with a statement from her family that essentially was what I consider brutally honest.

I know it could come later, however so far, there are no pointing fingers at someone else, no visions of suing for big dollars, etc. Just a simple explanation admitting what the woman has been suffering from.

If indeed she did commit suicide, I find it refreshing her family could admit publicly what has been going on in their lives and not play the blame game. Of course, the media will lose interest quickly if they can't feed off of supposition, innuendo and can't get people to make unfounded statements.

Maybe at the time he went off to the casino, he didn't know about the video of someone going overboad and thought she was just wandering around and she would turn up.

I heard on the news that she suffered from bi-polar disorder, but it was well controlled with medication. From what they said, she 'went out for a walk' and her DH went to look for her after awhile, but coudn't find her. That is when he and her mother (or maybe it was his mother) reported her missing.

There is video tape from the ship of a women going overboard.
