Update on Josh and his accident.

Well it's coming up on the 1 year mark (1/22/08) since the tragic accident my cousins son was in. He lost his wife and unborn son and he was in a coma for weeks. I just talked to his mom today. Josh is still in rehab but slowly improving. He can now eat soft foods-mashed potatoes, jello, pudding, yogurt, ice cream, etc... He can walk using a walker. The real miracle is that his brain is 'all there'. The doctors are amazed that he doesn't have any brain damage. He does get depressed (who wouldn't?) but he is progressing and that's all that matters. They bring his daughter up to visit him 3 times a week so that probably helps too. His mom is really hoping that he can come live with them sometime this summer. What a long haul this has been. Once again I thank everyone for their prayers-prayers do work! He could easily be in a vegetative state but will probably come back almost completely with a bit more time. Just wanted to update all you prayer warriors!

In fact he continues to be in therapy four days a week, but is making steady progress, too. We are all fortunate that he is home again with us, and I know your cousin will come home again too. From everything I've heard and read, the brain takes a long time to heal, but it eventually will in its own time. It certainly is and continues to be a long haul - one that I never would have imagined. My thoughts and prayers are with your family with best wishes for a healthier New Year ahead!
Wow, glad to hear your son is coming along so quickly with his therapy!

I'm so happy to hear about the progress in both of your families!

kathytheshopper, thanks for posting. I remember the story so well, and am glad we're getting such a positive update. Prayers still coming!

crazu4u3 - that is amazing. I'm sure you've learned to celebrate every milestone - big and small. I'll be keeping your son in my prayers, too.

Gosh, cannot belive it has been so long since the accident. Glad Josh is progressing well, and that his daughter is in such good hands. What a travesty to a beautiful family. I hope soon that they are able to recover, and Dad and Daugther be united. Thank you for your update. Lynne

The brain does take a long time to heal. My husband had a brain infection (viral encephilitis) about 4 years ago. He never lost the ability to walk or talk but he still has headaches and seizures. He has a pretty normal life now with meds.

Thank you for the update. We are in the Durant/Bennett school district, and had not heard anything in quite a while.
