I need help with buying furniture

I was wondering if anyone has boughten any furniture from Big Lots. We don't have a lot of places around here to look for furniture. I have about a $1000 to buy a love seat and couch. Any help will be great. We don't have a lot of big name furniture stores around either.

DS bought a living room set there a few years ago.(Couch, extra wide chair, coffee table and end tables. They have 3 dogs, including a mastiff, and they all hop up on the furniture. It still looks good and is holding up well. HTH

Check your local paper for auction houses. We have 3 auction houses near us that sell all sorts of things including furniture (usually from estate sales). Sometimes the stuff is ratty, but there often is absolutely pristine furniture for sale for pennies on the dollar. Like $150 for a sofa & loveseat with no visable wear or stains etc. If you don't mind used its a great deal.

My son-in-law bought a living room set from Big Lots a couple of years ago and my niece bought a set, too. They were very reasonably priced and really quite nice. They've both worn well.

I second the estate auctions. A lot of fun and you can find a great bargain. Sometimes there is modern furniture, but usually I see vintage items.

I haven't bought at Big Lots, but have seen that they've had brand name furniture there at times (Broyhill for example).

Check the frames to make sure they are wood not cardboard. Sit on it jump on it lay on it do what you or the kids might do. Check the warranty.

We were looking at furniture at Big Lots and planned to buy there but decided to check out Ashley since it was near our house and were pleasantly surprised to see their prices were about the same and cheaper on some stuff.
We ended up getting stuff at Ashley since Big Lots didn't have anything we really loved.

I hate to say this, but my inlaws bought a living room set from Ashley and it is very poor quality. It looked nice when they first got it, but it has not worn well. The finish on the wood tables is peeling and cracking and the cushions on the sofa have not held up. It's just MIL & FIL most of the time -- my kids are the only children who visit regularly, so it's not like it has to take the wear of an active family.

We just bought full three rooms of furniture from Walmart.com. Usually I avoid Walmart at all costs, but they had exactly what we were looking for at a very reasonable price. It's their Canopy line (go to Walmart.com and search for 'canopy living'). We used 'site to store' for free shipping, but I don't think they offer that for couches or upholstered chairs.
