Weight Watcher Question

I am thinking of joining weight watchers. (I hope they have chocolate on their plan lol) I want to attend the meeting weekly since I doubt if I will follow through if I do the internet program. My question is...do I have to go to the same meeting place every week?

Also, have you ever had any luck with this plan? I was looking at their new momentum program. This is the first time in my life I have been overweight. (I'm 6'2 and usually wear 6 or 8.) My cancer medication is making me fat and radiation killed my thyroid. I don't think a diet would hurt since I don't eat the best. I'm ready to beat up my oncologist. He doesn't think it's a big deal as long as I'm alive. (He's an idiot and will be replaced next week) My primary doc who I have been seeing for 26 years couldnt believe the weight I gained in just two months. He said my sugar is high, my blood pressure is high, my cholesterol is high, everything hurts, but hey, I'm alive. (today) I have to go back to primary next week so he can do research on my drugs. He did recommend a "program". (diet) Im frustrated.

Sorry about my rant.

When I first started putting on weight while going through treatment for Cancer, I couldn't believe it. You always seem to see people getting really thin. My Oncologist told me it was very common. I found it to be horribly annoying. I mean, where was the weight coming from, I couldn't keep anything down. I wasn't able to shed any of the weight till I went into remission. I would definately run any diet program by your Dr's. You don't want anything to interfer with your treatment. I sooooooooooo understand your need to vent! I wish you the best of luck, and will send many prayers your way.

I haven't done it since about 30 yrs ago however every single person I know or who I have heard of who stuck to the program is successful. The reason is simple: it's based on common sense eating habits and portion control. It's based on eating healthy foods and allows you to eat chocolates and other "forbidden" foods.
Also as we all know from many areas of our lives having support of those experiencing the same thing we are helps us succeed!
So go for it!
And good luck you deserve to be the best you can be!

I lost 35 lbs in about 3 months about 5 years ago. It's a great program. It teaches you how to eat no matter where you are and about basic good nutrition. Nothing is "off limits" but you have to plan for the *bad* foods so they don't kill your progress. I did the online program so I don't know about meetings and how they work.

I would talk it over with your doc considering your medical issues going on (HUGS to you on the cancer treatment!). To me, it's the best program out there. So many just have you eat THEIR food and then when you are confronted with a party or restaurant you have no idea how to eat there. WW teaches you how and what to eat in *real life*

Weight Watchers is the only diet plan for me. It works and you can even fit chocolate in.

Weight Watchers is a great program. You pay for one meeting a week and can go to as many as you want anywhere you want but you can only weigh in once a week. Once you find a lecturer you really like you will probably want to stick with that meeting. You will make friends with the people in your regular meeting and cheer for their succuess and they will cheer for yours. You can eat anything you want even chocolate. lol

I love the program and am doing it now. I've lost 35 lbs since July. I go to the meetings. I have to be accountable. It is the only way I can lose weight. And you can eat anything you want as long as you count it.

I also am currently doing WW at work. I have lost 30 pounds in 12 weeks. Slow and steady. It is a great program if you stick with it. Good luck to you health wise!

Thanks for all the feedback. I am going to start next week. It's free registration now so I'll try it and see if I can squeeze into a bathing suit by June.

My DH & I did WW back in 2003. We both lost about 40-50 lbs in 7 or 8 months. Unfortunately, we didn't react well to a bunch of stresses that were thrown at us all at once (one was DH being laid off) and then finding out I was pg and we gained it back and then some...5 years later we're talking about WW again. It really is a good program and I rarely felt like I was missing out.

I joined WW online and I actually did pretty good. I lost 12 lbs in 3 months which I thought was good and I ate choc just not as much as I normally did. I haven't been on WW in about a month and I began to eat bad again but actually I have gained only 2 of my 12 lbs back so Im happy. You would be amazed and it cost more to join the meetings so try it online by yourself 1st to see if you can do it.
