Had first surgery yesterday

I was originally scheduled to have a septorhinoplasty/tubrinaplasty on Tuesday but my surgeon had family emergencies and he rescheduled my surgery for yesterday. I was nervous all week. Here is how my day started.
My surgery was scheduled for 8 am and my parents drove me to the surgery center at 6 am. After 20 minutes of waiting in the lobby the receptionist called me and signed all the necessary papers. Two nurses and an on staff GP took me to an exam room where we discussed medical history and the GP did a quick exam. At 7 am I took off my clothes and jewelry and changed into a pink gown, surgical cap and thick grey socks. After awhile the nurse and anesthesialogist took me to the OR which was kind of small. They helped me onto the table and added arm attachements and they strapped each arm to the attachment which was scary they placed EKG pads on my chest and arms and listened and looked at my vitals for about 10 minutes the surgeon came in squirted spray into my nostrils. The anesthesialogist put an IV in and after a few moments he placed the mask over my face and told me to breahe deeply after a few mintues I was completely out. My surgery lasted two and a half hours
Waking up was horrible. I had a bad reaction to the anaesthesia. The nurse was trying to get me to wake up and got physical with her and freaked out. I ripped off the gauze drip under my nostrils and the drip pad holder attached to my ears. Another nurse had to help restrain me so I wouldn't try and remove my nasal cast and my surgeon came in and had to replace the drip pad and drip pad holder. During the time I soiled myself and began crying. It took me over an hour to finally calm down. The doctors and nurses kept me in a private recovery room for two hours to monitor me and make sure there weren't any complications. I was released to my parents at 3 pm. I was given instructions of how to change the drip pads which are catching blood and mucous. I learned how wear the drip pad holder and I learned how to keep my cast in good condition. I have two plastic splints inside my nose that are held together by stiches. I will get them out next Friday. I will have to wear drip pads for at 4-5 days and the cast will be on for 14 days. Right now I'm in a little pain but doing ok. Has anyone had similar surgeries or bad experiences with aneasthesia.

You are not alone on that I am sure. You can get that way going to the dentist as well.

Gee, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience

Hopefully, the worst is behind you and your recovery will be quick and complete.

Yikes. That sounds nasty. When I've had surgery, they give me some medication that kills my short-term memory. They give me a shot of it in the preop area and I don't remember anything after that until I wake up. I prefer it that way. Years ago, I went the route you did and it freaked me out to go through the whole OR prep and anesthesia inhalation process.

I've had bad reactions too, where I struggled to get away, but nothing as bad as yours.

Do you have to have additional surgeries? I would think that if you do, they'd try other meds next time.

When I had my wisdom teeth out, the surgery took about 45 minutes. They were all 4 impacted. When it was all over and I was waking up, I suddenly realized I was sobbing...really sobbing. The nurse asked me why I was crying. I remember saying, "I don't know." And, then I stopped. It was really weird. I guess my body was aware of the trauma that occurred while I was out. Who knows, but it's really freaky.

I have sleep apnea and in May I will undergo surgery on to remove my tonsils, adeniods and uuvla. The same surgeon who performed my nose surgery will be doing the next surgery and he made a note of what happened.

I agree maybe our bodies are aware of things before we are fully awake.

The nurse told my husband after his hernia surgery that he got violent waking up from his surgery too. he is a small guy, but they had to use alot of force to hold him down. they told him that they were practically on top of him trying to hold him down. his shoulders were sore the next day. they warned him of that.

My mom, myself and my DD all have bad reactions when put under. My first surgery in high school I had my wisdom teeth taken out. When I woke up (finally), my legs were numb and I panicked thinking that they cut them off! (kinda funny now). I had similar problems with my gall bladders surgery, emergency D&C and then my hysterectomy.

One year ago my DD19 had the biggest and longest back surgery in our state (12 hours). She had problems with the anesthesia and pain killers for three days.

Years ago when I had a widsom tooth pulled I was put to sleep.. while coming around, as the nurse was walking me to the recovery room, I was dreaming/seeing??? that the nurse was a green alien monster in a nurses outfit... and I began... LAUGHING!

In 2007 I had foot surgery... and they put me to sleep for that..kinda.. not all the way asleep but pretty near. I was dreaming that all the nurses in there were talking about WALMART HAHA As I was being rolled back to my room I asked them if they were talking about walmart during the surgery and they said no, and they laughed.
