I've had both actually.

Reglazing is a temporary solution at best, while the liner will probably last 15 years or more if you take care of it properly (use recommended cleaning products only). The liner can also be re-polished if it becomes dull.

In my experience, reglazing will last a couple of years at most.

Prices in Montreal, Canada : about $400 for reglazing, and about $1500 for a liner (more if you decide to add a shower surroud). Frankly, if you have the cash, go for the liner.

Am I missing something? Why wouldn't you just buy a whole new bathtub for that kind of money?

When we did our bathroom, we got a terrific bathtub with whirlpool jets for less than $800.

We've thought about reglazing or a liner, but think we'll just start fresh.

Kellyjef, for us, the issue is that while the tub itself would be less than the cost of re-doing the current avocado green tub, in our house the demolition and re-building that we'd have to do to get the current tub out and replaced would ultimately make that a more expensive option.

A friend of mine had it done to one of her old antique tubs. Her house was built in the 1700's and the only way to save the integrity of the original bathroom ( who knows what year it was actually put in, obviously not right away) was to reglaze the existing tub. It was a special size and would have required changing existing walls to install a new larger size tub, not to mention the issue of getting it in the house and through the doors.

We had a liner because our house was built in 1951. It was the original bathtub and I think it was brought in and then the walls were built around it. We had Empire Today do it. They also did the walls and some plumbing work. It was $3200 but it was the best money we every spent. We did the rest, changed the toilet, sink, cabinet, walls, floor. Our friend put in a vent. It still looks beautiful after 1 1/2 years.
