I have known this boy almost all his life. Our Island is so small that everyone knows everyone. He was living in Nags Head but just came up the past weekend for a surprise birthday party I had for my Best Friend, so at least we got to be with him one last time. He was killed this morning on Seaboard Rd in Virginia Beach, he was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from the truck and the truck flipped on top of him, it took them a while to find him. The driver was a friend of his and has been charged with manslaughter, but that poor kid will always have to live with his drinking and driving and killing a friend of his, I just horrible for him too. Matt was 25 and such a good kid. There comes a time when a parent can breathe a little easier when they think their kid has overcame all the dangers of growing up and then something happens like this. I've been crying all day, its such a senseless death. Thank you guys for letting me get this off my chest:'(

A very close friend of mine was killed in a similar accident back in 1982, a week before Christmas. To this day, I've never "gotten over it". The pain is always there deep inside. Such a tragic and senseless loss. I'm so sorry...sending prayers your way. ~Lisa

I heard about that this eve-at the time, they were not releasing his name, but since Seabord Rd. is right around the corner, I was hoping it wasn't someone we knew. I am so sorry it was your friend. That's a really horrible situation. Sending prayers out to you and his family.

I am so sorry to hear about such a tragic accident. As stated before, it is always hard when someone so young passes away so tragically.

This is the exact same way my father died. He was crushed by the car that he was riding in, that my 16 yo brother was driving, when he was ejected out the back window and the car flipped and landed on him. He was also not wearing a seatbelt. For some reason, I have had in my mind that my father was so much older than he was. When I was in Cali, I was talking with my Grandma, and when she said "he was only 45, too young to die"..it just hit me very hard. He was only four years older than I am right now.

I will be praying for peace for your family, friends and of course his family.

My thoughts are with you and all affected by this tragedy.
