Night owl or morning person?

Are you a night owl or a morning person? Or someone who burns the candle at both ends? How much sleep do you get a night? How much sleep would you like to get?

Question spurred by seeing people post in the middle of the night their time....I always wonder "what are they doing up???"

I do both.. Right now I am very, very sick with a horrible flu and I have been sleeping something like more than 18 hours a day. Plus with both of my legs being out of commission (yeah, I know, now I REALLY don't have a leg to stand on ..LOL) I am finding myself getting up in the wee hours and coming down to the computer..and then going back to bed after a few hours..

It sucks. I can't stand it at all. I love going to bed at 9-10 and being up at 4 or 5 in the morning. I hope my schedule gets back on track before I go back to work (I am now on LOA).

I can be a morning person (if forced!) but I'm really a night owl. I like to enjoy the peace and quiet of the house once everyone else is in bed for the night.

Right now, in my effort to stay flexible and employed, I am working two swing(second) shifts and two grave shifts. So my sleep schedule is suffering from "When do I have to be at work today-itis".

Normally I am a night owl.

I used to work exclusively swing shifts and loved it. Mostly because I didn't have to use an alarm clock. I usually sleep somewhere between 7 and 8 hours a night.

The good news is that I am the queen of power nappers, so if I don't get enough sleep I can pretty much catch 10-20 min of "fast" sleeping, anywhere, anytime.

I'm a morning person who lives with 3 night owls! I'm always the first to bed and the first one up in the morning.

Definitely a morning person. I'm in bed by 10 (sometimes earlier) and up by 6:00 (if not before) everyday.

I am most definitely a morning person; I have never needed an alarm clock. I do like 8 hours of sleep a night too. My boys are all night owls. I think they waste 1/2 the day that way.

HAHA Reminds me of a Golden Girls episode where Rose talks about her Uncle Big Sven.. saying he gets up with the cows..because he sleeps with the cows!

Ideally I am a morning person. I love going to bed at a early time ( 9 or 10) and getting up at day break. I NEED 9 hours of sleep. I feel better and get more done with those hours.

When I try doing that, I always have someone in my life who makes me feel bad for wanting to go to bed early. They tell me I'm OLD, and too tired and what's wrong with you Susan!!?? So I start feeling old.. then I fight the old feeling by staying up later to prove to myself I am still young with loads of energy.. and pretty soon I suffer.. the housework suffers.. then here I sit up late in a dirty house with no energy to clean it!

I have my weeks where I stay up late...like till 2 or 3 am. But regardless of when I go to bed, I'm always up between 6 and 6:30am with no alarm clock. It just kills me, that now that all the kids are gone and I can sleep till I want to, I still get up so early. I guess I'm lucky because I can get up and hit the ground running. I don't need any time to "wake-up".

Night owl here...not a morning person at all. I'm usually up late, but when I do go to bed at a "normal" time, I tend to wake up during the night so I come on the computer. I wake up from DH's snoring or else I'm having night sweats. Sometimes I try to take a nap during the day if I can. ~Lisa

Major night owl!! Even when I know I have to be at work early the next day, it's a battle to get in bed before 11. It gets on my nerves, but thats the way I've always been.

For one thing for me is that when I first got married my dh owned his own family business and there was never a 9/5 type of job, when the kids were small they would eat earlier and I would eat a snack so that by the time my dh came home I would be able to be with him and eat at 8/30 or 9/00. Now that the kids are older they have come so used to it and its been our normal time to eat. As far as going on vacations we always sleep late eat breakfest late and dinner late, we do not worry about time, we are on vacation. As far as a regular day there is so much good stuff on television at nite. Also I do not have to be in work till 11 a.m. so I do not have to get up early. When the kids were small of course I did now my baby will be 17 so no babies here to get up early. And again if I feel I did not get enough sleep I always take a late nap I can because my dh does not come home from work till 8 p.m. Also I simply have always loved the night time especially now with it snowing here its so beautiful and so peaceful. Peace to all whether early or late... Catherine

Always been a night owl. I hate getting up early. 3 days a week I have to be at work for 11 a.m. and I still don't get to bed before 1 or 2 am. I tell everyone I think I'm part vampire because I don't like the sun, but like garlic. LOL I usually average anywhere between 4 to 8 hours of sleep unless I'm sick then I'll sleep longer (unless the DH is snoring)

for you guys that are night owls - what do you do late at night? Watch TV? I've always been one to go to bed early and get up early. If housework doesn't get done by noon, it's not going to get done. I'm much more productive in the morning. I start thinking after dinner "how long until I go to bed?"

Ladystrange I am with you I have always loved the night time. As far as what I do late at nite I like to watch television, watch my favorite movies, do some laundry, cut coupons and always before bed take a bath and have a cup of tea. Each morning the dishwasher is ran, more laundry, made my bed, my kids totally take care of their own rooms. I do , do their laundry but they all have their own baskets and they put away their stuff.Every friday afternoon I clean all the bathrooms 4 in all.In between that I go over the bowls with wipes during the weeks, only takes moments. Everynight my dh vacumns the den and hallway and laundry room. I sweap the floors every morning again 10 minutes the most.Saturday morning all sheets are changed and my kids change and make theirs.Saturday morning after breakfest me and my dh dust the furniture.Again my kids totally take care of their rooms cleaning and all. So its truly no bother. I could never ever imagine going to sleep earlier then 1 a/m/ Peace. CAtherine

Wow - Catherine, you really have a schedule down pat.

I have never been one to stick to a schedule and while I try to keep up on general housekeeping, I definitely don't have a routine, other than "Quick, white tornado - Company's coming over." Then everyone goes in to major 'clean' mode; fresh hand towels in bathrooms, quick vacuum and sweep, and toys hastily put away.

On another note, I am definitely a night owl. I can easily stay up 'til 1am and I usually like to enjoy a cup of tea and read my Bible to unwind before going to bed.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays, I don't get home from work until about 1 or 2 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday I get home about 10 ish. Friday......Well......That varies. I can be home between 9, 10 or later (depends on how long I want to work). I need time to unwind when I get home. I usually get on the computer and check things out. I think it takes me long to get to sleep since the DH started working nights. I love having the bed to myself and not having to listen to him snore, but yet I miss having him near me. One good thing, if something happens he can be home in about 1 minute.

Morning person definitely. Usually asleep by 11 and up by 5. Speaking of The Golden Girls I watch them every single weeknight and morning!
I have always been a morning person. Today by 11:30 I had cleaned my whole house, changed the bed, done several loads of laundry, and showered, did my hair and makeup and not to mention making my husband's lunch for work. Oh and did my Pilates, watched The Golden Girls, cleaned out my desk...anyway I get up early I don't drink coffee and I am wide awake and raring to go! And usually in a great positive mood.

Night owl! I have a hard time getting to sleep. Once I finally get to sleep, I sleep about 7 hours a night.

Night nowl

""like to enjoy the peace and quiet of the house once everyone else is in bed for the night.""

My idea exactly! For seven years, I worked day shift and went to school at night, so the only time I had to myself, to study and unwind was after EVERYONE else in the house was asleep.
