This Morning In Central Florida

I try to remember to bring my camera with me whenever I leave the house. This morning on my way back from Wally World, I spotted two of my favorite birds... Sandhill Cranes.

Not the tallest ones I've ever seen but even these were at least 4 feet. They are magnificent birds!

It was nice to get out of the car and walk near these animals while it was still warm. After today we're in for a cool (for Florida) snap. For the rest of the week we'll be lucky to get out of the 60's for high temperatures. I know, poor us.

Nice pictures - though I have to chuckle because up here in Wisconsin those beautiful birds are considered a nuisance to the farmers. We are overrun with them.

Once, while driving down a country road, a mom and baby crane crossed in front of me. Next thing I knew, I had another crane running toward my driver's side window on the attack. Probably daddy protecting his family, but man, when you have a four foot bird coming at your open window squawking, you need to go home and change your pants!

LOL! Yeah they can be quite impressive. I'm surprised you have so many up in WI.

Some will let you get quite close to them but, due to their size, I prefer to give them their space.

The come to Wisconsin and breed......generally our first sitings are between March 3rd and March 13th (yeah, we right stuff like that down cuz we love birds!). Then they breed, hatch the babies and dessimate (sp) the corn fields.

They are pretty and fun to watch though.

ah-ha you solved the million dollar question of what those birds were wandering around near my mom's when we were there in August, they had not one care in the world. I have pictures of another set of birds just moseying along and I have no clue what they are either Mom lives in Winter Haven not too far from OP's area, gonna have to figure out where they are and post them for an ID on the birds they would go on the street and just stand there and look at you like they owned the road LOL

I live in Wisconsin too, and a couple yrs ago we went to the Crane place around Baraboo - can't remember the name of it off hand. Really beautiful birds - they have all different varieties of Cranes.

And Florida in the 60s? Cry me a river! Right now here the air temp is -11 and with wind chill it is -30. The furnace has been running almost constantly!

You mean the International Crane Foundation. I've heard it's a spectacular place to visit.

Mitcham - you are west of me....but it's just nasty cold out there! I don't pity anyone who has temps over 40 right now! LOL!
