US Airways Airbus Crashed into Hudson River

Not sure what time this happened. But latest reports are it appears everyone got out safely.

One report says that they hit a bird on take off, which is a huge problem that rarely happens.

Another report says that both engines may have gone out, which is a huge rarity.

Everyone seems to be out safely (one airline worker suffered a minor scratch) and I'm watching it slowly sink.

Mine also says it hit birds and was only up to 3200 feet. Great job to the pilot and crew for getting everyone out safe and withot panic and for trying to "land" safer that a full crash into the water.

LOL! I laughed when I read that -- that 3200 feet is high enough for me!!! Especially when that thing ended up in the water. I hate heights and water!! Glad everyone is ok, though.

Kudos to the pilots and to the flight attendants that handles this emergency with such efficiency. They did a great job from the sounds of it.

Now they are saying it one or more geese that took out both engines.

Why can't they put a bird "screen" over the intake to the engines?

Well, I can only think of two reasons why there is no screen protection. One is that how would the screen be attached? That suction of the engine would suck it right off. Two, it might be the preservation of airflow to the engine itself.
