Same here, I think that we were at -20 this morning so we have a heat wave compared to you OP . My DD starting throwing up last night, so it worked out well for us with no charged absence.

my poor children don't get out of school due to weather (no snow days, no cold weather days)...of course, that's because we live in an area of the country that has and is prepared for the extreme cold and snow.

It's humorous the contrast between those of us who live in areas that are subject to very cold weather vs those who don't. My sister was griping because the school let her grandkids outside in 40 degrees--she thought that was too cold. The kids here get outside as long as it's not below 0 (either actual temp or temp w/ wind chill).

25 below is nothing for Wisconsin! LOL! We don't cancel school until its 35 below. Yesterday schools were all closed. A lot are closed today, but my son's only had a 2 hour delay, much to his dismay.

I believe, and I could be wrong, that the busses won't run if the actual temp is 30 below. My understanding is that the fuel freezes and becomes a jello like consistency at around 30 below....

Since we've never had a school cancellation due to weather since we moved up here, I'm not real sure what the official policy is...

We're celebrating our second day off due to cold weather! Temps this a.m. were somewhere in the -20s with wind chills between -35 and -45.

Our buses do run (and they ran today). Gas line antifreeze (Heet) is selling off the shelf right now! And it also depend on whether or not the buses are in a bus garage or not.

My Jeeps been starting, even at 45 below, sitting outside.

Schools around here, NW Ohio, were cancelled. We already had the day off because of Teacher-In-Service Day. They were cancelled yesterday though. 5 day weekend here.

Schools closed today and yesterday here in central Wisconsin. It's not just the air temperture but the wind chill that determines if school will be closed. This moring it was 28 below when I left the barn at 7:30, but the winds were calm at that time.

Yep, schools closed Middle Tennessee/Nashville area - lows were around zero this morning. May seem silly to you northerners, but most schools around here have cheap portables that have little or no heat and because we are not used to these temps for more than a day or so, the buildings, cars, buses, etc. really aren't prepared as they should be for the cold. And, as in most parts of the country Monday 19th is the MLK holiday - I'm sure that was a factor in closing schools today.

Closed here, I was counting on two of them to be going to school today so i didnt have to tote them all into the Dr's to have son's leg checked and recasted..... which I thought was cool cause he could pick a color instead of just haveing plain white, they had about 10 or so colors to choose from

Doesn't sound odd to me! Last March we took off from Wisconsin and headed to friends in Tennessee because we were sick of the snow! Guess what? We woke up to snow our first morning there. Everything shut down and poor drivers had no idea how to drive! There was more salt on the sidewalks than snow. For us, it was quite hilarious!

Yesterday we were off because of air temp at -30 and windchills of -46...today they went to school because the air temp was ONLY -28 this morning and the windchill was hovering between -30 and -48. I love Minnesota! (AND I'm grateful for the current warm front...heck, it's almost above zero!)

Another Wisconsinite - my son has been home the past two days due to school being closed because of the dangerous cold and windchill. The real tragedy though is that I had to be home with him because I'm sick! I could have had two quiet peaceful days if those darn schools weren't so wimpy!

Some parts of our state (Maine) had record breaking temps of 52 below zero. In our area it got down to 32 below zero. I am a a sub and my car would not start, neither would my father in laws, luckily...my mother in laws van started, so she was able to take me to work. No schools cancelled because of the cold. I have never seen that happen and I have lived here for most of my 46 years....

It was 12 degrees when I took my kids to school this morning and 28 when they got off the bus at 2:30pm. I drove them this morning because I thought it would be too cold on the bus. I am in Atlanta and it normally doesn't get that cold here. I would have loved to have a 'snow day', but we had school.

No, it doesn't seem silly (well, not to me); it's just different if you haven't experienced the typical Southern winter, versus a "true" winter.
First year we moved up and it got 20 below? I cried wondering what in the heck I had gotten myself in to!

Had school her. It was -23 below when I woke up. I've experienced it before but it's been a while since we've had a cold snap like this..I can't stand it.

I almost killed my oldest when he was 7. I didn't realize it was 10 below and sent him out to the bus stop. I forgot about him and went on to care for the other two. He finally came home after standing in that cold for over an hour. Looking back, I should have taken him to the hospital. I still think about that morning and feel horrible. He was afraid to come home, thinking that is when the bus would get there and then I would be mad that he missed the bus. Poor baby! His little tears were frozen on his cheeks. One of those mommy moments I wish I could get a do-over on.
