Can someone kindly help , under the post that was started by Caddylisa asking is there anyone on the boards you did not like but like now. This new member mellowyellow comes on and this being her first post comments how phony people are and also to stay away from people who offer you a prayer. Right underneath that comes xhcandy who also a new poster with only 4 posts and totally agrees with her. So I decided to take it upon my self and so some research as I have a feeling as some other members thought in the post, this is a member who came back with a new username. Needless to say I have found many people who share the same birthday. Am I going crazy any help deeply appreciated. Peace. Catheirne

Hey Lucy, don't sweat it. There are lots of people here with additional log-on aliases. A lot are because they want to stir up trouble a lot are because they like being anonymous at times.

If someone rubs you the wrong way, just disregard them.

I'm sure their useing a false name too, dont know about the birthday thing though remember a long time ago the board glitched and showed all the people that had been here a year so before as joining on a certain date even though theyd been here a long time before. I guess I don't understand why someone would create a new account just to post a comment? Why can't they make the comment with their original account? I hate to appear stupid but I just don't understand this whole thing....

I agree that they are probably using fake names but I do know for a fact that there is alot of people on here with many user names. I dont care who has different user names cause if they hang around long enough they WILL screw up and it will come out who has more than one name.Not a big deal to me. but then again, my life dont revolve around these boards so I just let it go on by. not worth worrying over cause afterall, if they are confronted , they will lie like a dog and never own up to it. but I do agree that the poster is probably a long time user with many different names.

I don't know what's going on here, I don't have the time to invest in the background. But I know when DH and I have a problem, or our kids have a problem w/ outside forces, or each other, we look at each other in the moment and say, "At then end of the day, will this really matter?" And usually DH will pipe in, "In two minutes, will this really matter?" Guess what, hardly ever will it matter when all is said and done.

Catherine.. Why does it matter how many names someone uses? You are too concerned about other people. I am not trying to be snarky....Really, you should take Linnybop's advise and think to yourself before you post...Does it really matter in my REAL life? People usually do that type of thing to create a scene, get attention or cause drama.

Starting a thread like this gives them exactly what they want. You play right into it, but I don't understand why. Like Toonces said, do you think people will come out and admit it and then offer you a big explanation? What is it that you want to get to the "bottom" of? What "bottom" is there?

It's just a message board, Catherine. You tell people to by pass your posts if they don't like them...why don't you do the same? Bypass posts you don't like instead of creating threads dedicated to them?

You can think it's fair or not fair, but it's not your call. There's no rule against multiple user names. Other boards do have that rule though.

As far as trust goes...well, you should never put too much of yourself out on the internet. Period. If you worry about trust issues, the internet is NOT the best place to be.

You said "We are all trying to keep the peace here" - not when you start threads like this, you're trying to stir up anything BUT peace.

Message boards rely on responses to keep going. If no one would respond to those posts (much less start a whole new thread!) there wouldn't be any satisfaction. If a person trying to start trouble, doesn't get what he/she wants, it's no longer "fun". By bringing all this up, you just give that person what they wanted in the first place.

Cathrine, I think the key here is what one is looking to get out of the internet.

If someone comes to a message board to form relationships then they've come to the wrong place here. I've been around since longer than you have (my original username crashed the year I created this one) and can tell you that I've seen people I thought were 'friends' turn into something entirely different. I've followed 'friends' to other message boards when things got yucky here, only to see that pool of 'friends' disintegrate into a huge mess.

I've had issues with users on this board be taken to PM's, with one of them coming at me with veiled threats with her various usernames. All it took was a little googling to realize that the user - whose username ironically began with "saint" - had started another name or two using the names of restaurants in her city as her new username. It frustrated me to no end that the mods or owners wouldn't do anything about it. Now... I really could care less.

If you're looking for relationships and advice and friendship, your best bet is to look around you in your real life.

If you're looking for interaction and entertainment and even a wider range of perspectives than your own, this is a fine place to be. But don't confuse usernames with friends. Don't expect honesty from everyone here. There are a handful of posters - perhaps even more than a handful - who will shoot straight with you and give you an honest, realistic perspective. And there are many who will "mess with you". And the trouble is that because you don't really know these people, they aren't people you'll encounter at work or church or school, there is really no accountability. When we're going to have to live with - and face - people as we go about our daily lives, we behave in ways that will allow us to maintain civility and possibly even develop friendships. We can see the actions of others, and not just their words.... and really, it's the deeds and not just the words that define people.

Don't expect more from a message board than is reasonable. You'll be sorely disappointed. Every time.

This is the same OP that is is constantly telling others to ignore her posts if they don't like them, etc (yadda, yadda, yadda, ad infinitum). So why can't she follow her own advice? Why start a whole damn thread about something she could have ignored?

Oh, my - I screw up all the time. I'm probably guilty of more sins of omission than commission, but that doesn't make the ways I screw up *better* than if I were actively doing bad stuff. I appreciate your kind words... but I really deserve no pedestal!

And the thing is... for all anyone knows, *I* am buffaloing here and I have 72 usernames and this is the 'nice me'. I don't. But there would be no way for anyone other than a mod to know it, and I could be sitting here behind my screen logged in as one person in Internet Explorer and as another person in Mozilla and having conversations right and left with myself. I could be a 75 year old man posing as a mom in her 40's under one username and a male college student under another. I actually think I could pull that stunt off. Well, I couldn't ever be a 75 year old man - lol - but I can weave quite a story without batting an eye. I was in a restaurant with friends on my birthday and didn't want the waiters singing the birthday song using my name and having everyone in the restaurant know it was *my* birthday, so when they asked my name, without hesitation, I said, "Lisa". Lisa is NOT my name. My friends were stunned at my ability to be so fast on my feet with that falsehood and it's been a running joke ever since that time that they never know when to believe me now because I lied with such fluidity. I was a natural improv actor - lol!

Bottom line... I'm probably more direct here than I am in person. I have only one username. The "me" I present here is the only me there is. But I know for a fact that that's not true for everyone, and I know for a fact that I have within me the 'talent' - ability - whatever you want to call it - to impersonate just about anyone with my words at the drop of a hat. I never *have*... but I know that I *could*. And I have to believe that more sinister - or just even more ornery - people also have that talent and *do* use it to deceive people, either out of malice or just to get a chuckle.

And for that reason... I just think it's smartest not to get too emotionally invested in anyone on the internet.

We went to TGIF's, and had wings at 4:00 because there was a special that day - all you can eat for $3.99! Awesome! The waiter was wearing this funny pin on his lapel, and I can't remember exactly what it said, but it had a picture of Bozo the Clown on it and my friend Janey thought it was hysterical. She just started laughing so hard that her Diet Coke started coming out of her nose, and then we all started laughing, and the next thing we knew the manager came over and told us that the people at the table beside us had complained about the noise and asked if we would consider moving to a table in a more private area of the restaurant so we could continue to enjoy our time in the restaurant without criticism from the other patrons. I thought he handled it very tactfully, and as a result I left the biggest tip I ever have!

Unfortunately, my fish was undercooked, but otherwise it was a day I'll never forget!

And I just made EVERY word of that up! lol
