Question What's the Last Big Ticket Item You Bought?

We got a new computer about a month ago. This was to replace my 8 year old computer that finally died.

It was a shelf model and not something I would have normally picked out for myself but we got a good deal. It's something I guess they call a gaming computer and has a clear side with all kinds of freaky neon lights on the inside. Thankfully, I can turn off the brightest ones. It also has the face of an alien on the front with eyes that glow blue.

not yet but very soon, a washer. it's 16 years old and has a washers version of incontinence poor thing, I started it up, turned to gather up the load to put in and I stepped in water. Yelled up to hubby to come down and he replied that he was busy so i told him it was nothing just the downstairs was flooding so nevermind. that got him down there fast lol. I'm sad though after reading how a lot of the washers dont last as long anymore like this one... that and mom bought it for us right after me and dh got married

I guess our last big ticket item would have to be our pellet stove. With the weather the way it has been lately, it was a very wise purchase. We bought it back in July....while the sun was shinning and it was 80 degrees.

Our last purchase over $1000 was our washing machine a few years ago. We just bought a new computer before Christmas but it was under $400 so I don't consider it "big ticket".

Our last big purchase was our new high efficiency washer and dryer last May. But we're planning on new furniture and a big screen HD TV for the family room (probably next weekend). And I have a feeling a new refrigerator will be on the list soon. I just hope the old one will hold on a little longer!

We bought a new washer last Saturday.

My old one was 18 yrs old and I know this one will not last near that long!
We were told they only last an average of 7 yrs now.

I hear you there. My son starts on Tuesday.

Our last major purchase is kind of lumped into one. We just moved into our new house in Nov and bought all brand new appliances and furniture for all of the rooms. Out of all that my favorite is my Advantium Microwave/Speedcook oven. It microwaves, bakes and grills steaks at a much faster cook time than a regular oven. I can make nice crispy on the outside soft on the inside baked potatoes in 8 mins. It has a ton of preset buttons so all I have to do is go to the food I want to cook and press the button and it does it for me. And the feature that sold my DH, it has a cookie button lol. He doesn't cook but now when he wants cookies he just puts the dough on the tray hits the cookie button and he can have fresh baked cookies without even knowing how to bake.

A brand new home.

Next to that, a stackable HE washer and dryer and a plasma TV.

WOWOWOW!! I didn't know something like that existed!!

We need other things first, but I'll have to keep this in mind, it sounds like a dream.

Our deck cover over our back deck. Bought last spring for $8500 installed (which was discounted from $12K). We LOVE it! We have west sun in the afternoon and couldn't really use our deck until the sun went down and the heat in the summer...ugh. Now, we can use the deck anytime and my precious grill is under it so it makes it easier to grill year-round since I'm not out standing in the rain or snow. We just got an appraisal (refi'ing) and found out it added over $10K in value to our house so I'm glad we did it!

I've always wondered about these things.

We get the sunrise-early afternoon sun on the back. I'd like to have a portion of the deck covered with one of those. I've never known anyone to have a cover put on, good to know they work!

What I'd REALLY like is our deck extended, then have half of it enclosed like a sunroom, the other half open. Not sure how that would work with our set up, so a deck cover might be the next neatest thing.

We searched around a lot. We did NOT want one of those glassed in or glass like tops. We see those around a lot and to me, they look like crap very soon. We wanted a weatherproof, maintenance free cover. The one we got can be closed in at a later time if we want (to do a screened in deck) but it would have cost us $6K more....and we didn't have it. We went with a local company that has great references. They also do the screened in patios for a chain of restaurants (at least the ones in CO) and those look REALLY nice. It's hard to find a good company with good service. We have neighbors that have covers that are ugly and look cheap. You need to look hard to find a good company

I'd like to thank you all for stimulating our economy.

Right now we are trying to hold off on too many big purchase items until SO is back to work and we know which way our future lies. But we of course have to maintain the things we do have, so our last big expenditure was $1000+ for a new clutch in one of the trucks.
Before that it would have been a new roof at about $3500.
I think the next thing will be the supplies to relay some of the subfloor in the utility room. We had a small water leak and it warped the floor and now my washer wants to wobble if I don't keep it leveled.

Oh and in the spring we will repaint the house and garage, and redeck the front porch and regravel the driveway and ................
It's always something, isn't it?

LCD TV. to replace one that got hit with a WII controller. And a 5th wheel camper over $50,000. These items were bought in Dec. So we are not buying anything big for awhile unless something unexpected comes up.

They finished construction on our house the middle of Nov. and we moved in right before Thanksgiving. Shortly after that the cold weather set in so all of the outside projects that come with a new house are on hold until it warms up.

Once it warms up we have to have the permanent driveways and walkways put in then the landscaping has to be done. We have very little grass right now because the winter grass they put down to hold us over froze before it got a good chance to sprout. Our back patio needs to be built, fish pond has to be put in and a ton of other odd and ends stuff. We should keep people busy for the whole summer with jobs. Everytime I think about it I just see $$$$ going bye bye.

We replaced our cracked front stairs and sidewalk with 8 foot granite stairs and a tumbled paver walkway. Our landscaper did a beautiful job and we are very happy with the results, but oh it was expensive.

I can't remember the last BIG ticket item we bought. Paying for cancer treatment doesn't leave you with much money to spend!

My parents sent us $500 to buy Scott's truck new tires for Christmas. Does that count?

A new kitchen stove in November, our old one died at 9 years old. They just don't make appliances like they used to. I can remember my parents having appliances for 20 years before they had to buy new ones, you hardly ever see that nowadays. Of course something you wish would die, like maybe my avacado green electric hand mixer that is 34 years old is still going strong, LOL, I just can't bring myself to throw it away until it actually breaks/dies.

I guess our house we just bought in December. Writing out the check for the down payment gave me a near heart attack! I had never written a check for the much before!
Then we bought new living room, dining room and bedroom furniture for us and the three kids rooms. New washer and dryer. New TV for living room. I think that is it. I nearly faint when I see how much I have spent in the last month!

I am going to buy a new computer as soon as we get our tax refund. I need one that will play Sims 3. I found a nice one at Sams.

We bought laminate flooring for our living room and installed it ourselves it was only $200 got a good deal at Lumber Liquidators in Sept 08.

Before that the last real big ticket item would be Zuess my 2005 Escape we had to get in Nov 2007 when my beloved Bullet my 2000 Windstar had transmission issues (kind of like the washer up above with the incontinence problem LOL) Got it for a steal at $15.900 which was the price with , life, warranty, gap insurance and maintenance plan they wanted $16,895 for it without all that so I pushed and shoved and haggled for about 5 hours and they finally saw my way since I used to work in the car business I knew how much they mark up and what they get on their front and back ends. Got a good interest rate considering my FICO score.

No plans to buy anything big just plans to pay all the bills off with the tax refund and my checks from working and try to pay the house off this year we have only 11 more payments and this baby is ours PIF and then planning to pay Zuess off sooner also.

I have been thinking about this for a couple of days and looking around. I really think it was my car two years ago. Everything else is small like clothes, shoes, etc.

My dryer stopped working about 3 weeks ago, so I replace it with a new Bosch dryer.

My laptop screen broke after falling off a table about 2 months ago, so I replaced it with a new laptop.

My stove is acting up, so I may end up purchasing a new stove within the month. My current stove is about 15 years old.

After reading this post yesterday, I was reminded of when my washer did the same thing and I had the water pump repaired. I was trying to figure out how long ago it was, I came up with about 5 yrs... and I was thinking that "That repair was worth it because the thing is still running."

SURE ENOUGH, my washer started leaking LAST NIGHT! I jinxed myself! Now to decide if I want to repair or replace?!?!?! It's only 10 yrs old and I love it!

Cuthie reminded me of my last big purchase: I pulled over the front of a snowpile (which I could not even see!) and it was just enough to catch the front bumper of my Tahoe. I carefully tried to back-up, but being in the low single digits, it not only pulled the front bumper off it also sharred the plastic and grill! It's one huge piece that goes right over the wheel wells too! The damages came to $2634.00, PLUS the car rental for 3 weeks! Thankfully, all we were responsible for was the $500.00 deductible and the extra week on the rental car.

Our newest big purchase is the trip were taking next week. We're going to Jamaica for 10 days! With these single digit temps, it cannot come soon enough!

In the past 30 days we have bought:

A new house
2 laptops
Duet steam dryer
3 desks with hutches
Chantal cookware for the pot rack

Still to buy soon:
A wood shed
New carriage garage door
Entry foyer chandelier
Oak curio cabinet
Secreatary desk

Yes, we are definitely stimulating the economy.
