How old is your oldest appliance/electronic device?

Include the brand. I'm curious to find out which brands appear to have the greatest longevity. (Yeah, I know it won't be statistically significant. Still interesting though.)

Until very recently, I had a Sony TV I bought in 1983. It hadn't completely broken, but the color was somewhat "off." I bought a used Sony to replace it.

Our oldest appliances now are our Maytag washer and dryer that we bought in 1990. The dryer doesn't stop when the clothes are dry, but otherwise they both still work.

Received as a gift in 1975 an avacado green electric handheld kitchen mixer, made by General Electric. Still runs great, I use it to make cakes and cupcakes all the time.

Well none of my stuff is THAT old because I was in middle or high school in 1990 lol but my Amana dryer and (Panasonic? the logo fell off long ago) TV are still alive and well, bought in '97 I think The washer we bought with the dryer has already been replaced, 2 years ago.

I think the oldest appliance we own is our Westing House chest freezer that we bought in 1993. Still running just fine even after being in the basement when it flooded because the electricity went out and the sump pump couldn't run. I guess that's approaching the 20-year mark that I used to think all appliances should last! I'm not real sure about other appliances we bought earlier because we've since sold the house (with appliances included). I DO know that the appliances you buy now certainly don't come close to the 20-year life expectancy and yet they cost so much MORE than they used to!

We had a washer and dryer that would be probably 15-16 years old now, but we left them with the house when we sold it. Are they still running? I have no idea! I wouldn't be surprised if they were, though. We've already replaced the washer and dryer that we got with this house (they were about 8 years old when we replaced them), and I would NOT be surprised to find out that they'll need to be replaced again in a few years.

DISGUSTING! I always thought appliances lasted around 20 years, give or take a few years. I'm SURE that's the way it used to be, but now? I think for the prices you pay for these new things, they should last a lot longer than they do!

No just saying I couldn't have bought appliances then.

My parents had the same washer and dryer from about the time I was born til ... sometime after I moved out of the house. I wish stuff these days would last that long

We recently lost a Sony TV that I had for over 20 years. We've had our Maytag washer and dryer (in the lovely color almond) for 21 years now. We bought them used.

I am impressed with how long some of your appliances have lasted. I think the oldest major appliance we have is our stove....its about 20 years old. I go thru washing machines every few years, and I also seem hard on dish washers. But, I do have a curling iron that I have had for about 10 years.

I still have the Zenith TV and Aiwa stereo system that I got in 1992 after I graduated high school. I bought them for my room when I was moved to go to college. They still work great. I have a compact vidal sassoon hairdryer that I got as a gift in high school (so 1990 or so) that still works as well.

Our washer/drier made by Roper (which is inexpensive version of Maytag...made by same company) are circa 1989? We got them when we were engaged. They still do a fabulous job of washing the clothes. I anticipate they'll last a few more years.

Cuthie...sounds similar to ours. DH wants to replace it because he thinks newer machines are more energy efficient, but I don't fix want isn't broken. I'm afraid the newer ones aren't as long lasting and so I'm hanging on....

My KitchenAid mixer that I have had for over 20 years and it was a hand me down from my Aunt. It is Avacado green if that gives you any indication of it's age. It and all it's attachments still work just fine.

Also I have a Sasson curling iron that I bought in 1982 at a store that I had never heard of because they were only in Arkansas and Oklahoma. WalMart.
Still curls with the best of them.

I just got thinking about our cast iron frying pan...I know it isn't an appliance, but we have had it since we got married...it was a wedding gift from my dh's aunt 27 years ago. I cannot tell you how much fried chicken has been made in that frying pan...and not once have had to hit my hubby over the head with it <grin>

My laptop is 11 or 12 years old? 800x600 resolution screen and I have to scroll back and forth (littlejo always talks about this too and she's right; it is very frustrating!!!!) when I'm on MyCoupons because they messed it up during the last *fix*. LOL. This is the only site that I have trouble with. I wonder if they'd fix it for me!

Hmm lets see we have a Zenith TV/VCR combo that I bought from a company I worked for in 1996 DS Stefan has it in his room but the VCR part is kind of hinky these days

The oldest appliance we have is our dishwasher we got it in I believe in 1991 or 1992 at Montgomery Wards it is a Maytag and we have had no problems with it. It was floor model with some dings in it and I talked that salesman down big-time on it and we brought it straight home.

Wait I stand corrected the oldest thing in our house is my record/cassette/radio/8 track player that I have had since I was in Junior High School so its pretty ancient and everything still works except I have a hard time finding needles for the record player. It is (as I age myself) 30 years old ! It was made by JcPenney it was one of their brands I remember how long and hard it was to save up for it.

We have purchased 2 houses over the years that had KitchenAid dishwashers. They are exactly the same. I'm guessing they are vintage 70's. They both work, although they have their quirks.

I also have a very old Hobart stand mixer. It is from a Woolworth luncheonette counter. I'll probably cry the day it dies.

The Maytag dryer my now-ex has was new in 1974 - it was in the condo when we bought it. My daughter uses it, so I know it's still working. My microwave is stamped "May 1979" on the back. It's a Hardwick that I brought home 14 years ago when the company I was working for closed.

I have a Sony record player that's . . . almost 40 years old? Not sure, it was my grandfather's, and I've had to replace the power switch, but it's otherwise going strong. I had a 1940's Mixmaster I had to leave behind when I moved to the US, but new Sunbeam stuff doesn't seem so good.

GE Mixer. Used almost 28 years and still kicking. We received two as wedding gifts. The other is still in the box and ready to go if the first one goes. LOL. I walk by fancy, pretty, modern new ones and sometimes think how pretty they would be. We also have a Panasonic tuner that is at least 30 years old. Works great! My Kitchen Aid mixer is 25 and looks and works like it is new.

All of our large appliances are newer (within the last 7 years) when we built this house. The only appliance I have thats "old" is a Waring 3 speed hand mixer we bought when we first moved in together in 1989. Zayres was going out of business and it was a whole $2! Its still going strong too!

Large appliiance WAS our GE washer that died last week. It was 18 yrs old.

One year ago we bought a new upright freezer to replace the old one that was still running but using a ton of electricity. The freezer was so old it had a porcelain interior and was probably 36 yrs old.
We have a 5 disc CD/DVD player that is at least 10 yrs old.

We have a Sony table top am/fm radio dh got for graduation in 1972, still works great. That sucker still has great sound, even though it's been banished to the garage and has survived many sub zero winters and 100 degree days during the summers.

I have a Clairol Set-A-Way travel set of electric curlers I got in 1977, no steam, no fancy extra anything. DD now uses em and says they work so much better than any of the other ones or curling irons we've trashed over the years. It only has 8 curlers, wish it had more, but they heat up in about 1 minute after being stuck back on the heating posts.

I wish I could remember the brand (I'm at work) but we've had the same mini fridge that dh had when he went to college, in 1983. The only times it has not run is when we defrost it, or move. Not too shabby for being 26 years old!

We also have a 19" TV (RCA) dh had before we met, I'd say it's at least 20 years old. Still works great.
