Spin-off: Just for fun - the logistics of managing multiple usernames on one forum

This came up in another thread....so as not to pollute it, maybe we could continue it here...

I've gotten to be such a space cadet in my old age, that I have to keep the same user name on the various forums I participate in.....and I use a few different passowrds and have a way of incrementing them so as to at least have a fighting chance of getting it right. And yes, I admit it, I have a spreadsheet for the various online banking, medical, insurance, etc account names and passwords....

I think it must be hard to have alter-egos!!! Could YOU do it and keep it straight? Know anyone personally who has?

I know of people on other message boards that create sock puppets, but I have a hard enough time keeping my usernames/passwords straight as it is, so there's no way I'd confuse myself with another one! LOL

Apparently I am deddlastt and dedlast and xpcandy and god only knows who all else someone will come up with next...she's very bored apparently. I have a different username at every different forum I use...seldom repeating myself. I guess I have a good memory because I don't have trouble keeping them straight...I guess I have about 100 usernames here...HAHAHAHA!!!!!....apparently....

Geeez...I have a hard enough time with my one and only username. I honestly cannot understand why anyone would want to have more than one username. I think its only fair to be who you are, and stay that one person. People will either like you or dislike you. Either way...life will go on...

So, I log on from both work and home...i.e. two different domains. I suppose that I could log in as one person from work and another from home....although sometimes I VPN into work from home and then I'd confuse myself. I'm pretty sure mods and admin can see user IPs, which can be circumvented somehow I suppose....not too sure about that.

I am with you, OP - I have way too much information written down, but I get so tired of re-registering for somewhere to be told that info is already in their system, etc., etc., etc....lol

I am on a few different forums and have never found the need to have more than one account, although I have seen this happen on other boards.........

Wink

Just to make things easier for me I have always used the same password for all sites. I did in the beginning when I first signed up on different sites, I was using so many different passwords and could never remember them. It became such a hassle so now I only use the same password for everything and its so much easier for me to remember now.. Peace. Catherine

I am me...just me. I have been a mod before on a couple of boards and had a different user name and I hated it. It was nice to just be me again.

I'm just me here and on other message boards. I guess I'm one of those people who doesn't have a problem saying what I think/feel as myself. No need for an alter ego.

Um, I guess I'm off to try and read up on what prompted this thread.......

OMG, it was posted months ago that I was deddlast.... So just so I get this straight, I must also be deddlast, mellow, xpcandy and ???

Seriously, who has the time to sit and analyze who is who and who really cares? And I basically have 2 user names that I use at different places depending on what type of board it is. Just to be clear, those are at different boards and I don't have 2 user names at one place. I personally don't care, but I do get amused reading all the drama spawned from stupidity.

So, if I have my reasoning correct, you are also MellowYellow, since you referenced a song by The Beatles and don't they also sing MellowYellow??? Yes, I think I have that right.......so, my final answer is that it was Colonel Mustard in the Study with the Revolver..........

Oh,and, um, is your birthday also Nov. 30th??? Yes, that would definitely be the clincher!!!!!

Toonces is right, but they did do Yellow Submarine which kinda counts cause it is yellow. Actually if everyone sings that all together, it should make everyone happy

The only two user names I have on any boards I go to are LAR7463 and CaddyLisa...I can't see the reason for having more than one user name unless you are a moderator and don't want people to know. What you see is what you get here as well... ~Lisa

I am neither patient enough, nor creative enough, to have more than one name. I don't believe I could change my writing style enough to fool anyone for very long. And, even though this is the internet, I would still feel horrible if I were a liar or cheat. If I don't agree with something someone posts, I'll say it and move on. I have never understood people who create new user names. I never will.

Well said! Well enough, I had to repeat it for myself!!!

and for you other people that keep beating the dead horse.. get real, get a life and move on.

Mellow, if you have nothing to worry about, WHY do you keep bringing this crap up?????????????

You are polluting our board. Go somewhere else if you really are new. I don't find your contributions helpful OR amusing. The ones who do can leave right along with you.

'nuff said.

I hate to continue this off topic stuff, but I did want to put this mellowyellow thing in perspective.

As a reminder, this poster - new or reincarnant, what does it really matter? - ORIGINALLY posted a reasonably benign comment/warning - in the thread about liking someone whom you originally did not - to be leery of those who are overly sweet or religious. My original thought was that she had been burned by someone like this in the past. No big deal.

The pollution was not the original comment itself, but how others reacted to it, including the starting of a thread dedicated to this poster and apparently many behind-the-scenes PMs on the topic.

The whole thing is disgusting, but absolutely avoidable. If there's anything I've learned in all my days, it's that you can't control other people; but you can control your own reaction to them. Everyone needs to be accountable for their OWN actions.

that is my 'nuff said.

I have to admit that I have 2 user names here. I'm not sure if I have the same birthday as myself because, quite honestly, I don't think my birthday is anyone's business. I have a different birthday for every freebie/board/whatever that I'm registered with. Just for the record, I do have 2 user names, but I only use one. The first one I registered with was my real name. Duh! I found out rather quickly that wasn't so smart.

On the birthday note, I guess the mods should limit membership to 365 people. That way, everybody would have a different birthday and no one could have two user names. Ooh, I guess that won't work if someone lies about their birthday like I do. Then again, we could have one member with 365 different birthdays, and she could talk to/argue with herself all day. The rest of us could just sit back and lurk and enjoy the drama.

Edited to Ask: Where do you find someone's birthday anyway? I just went to check when mine is (are) and I can't find it. Help!

Ah, the logistics of multiple usernames.

Here is my method:
Step 1 Design spreadsheet in Excel to track all names and each use, divided by boards visited x frequency of visits less months with days numbering less than 30.
Step 2 Take nap. Excel wears me out.

And this folks is why on this site I only have one username.

LOL crack me up!

I am like the other poster who has multiple birthdays on the net. I have never entered my real birthday anywhere...? In fact, I don't even remember my real birthday in real life.
