My Morning At The Flea Market

We have a good size flea market in my town that I am always meaning to go to but don't. Well this morning I took a ride over. They have an entire section with fresh produce and the smell was intoxicating.

One of the stands had samples of different fruit. They had 3 different types of oranges and I tried a Page orange for the first time. Let's just say it was love at first bite.

From the net: A Page orange is a cross between a Clementine Tangerine and a Honeybell, it's a rare treat that is one of Florida's best kept secrets. Although small in size, they are sweet, juicy and delicious.

I got 4 pounds of these oranges ($3.00) and 4 HUGE beefsteak tomatoes for $2.50. Yummy stuff.

I'm definitely jealous! We have a fruit/meat market in downtown Cleveland called the West Side Market. While their prices are fabulous, this time of the year everything tastes like hot house stuff! The only thing I bought the other day that was beyond wonderful was a papaya. We're definitely going again this week for more!

Those oranges are just about done for the season. The people at the stand where I bought them said they are harvested in November. I had never seen them at a regular store before so I'm not sure you'll be able to find them any where but a fresh fruit stand or flea market.

Where abouts in Florida are you? We're between Orlando and Tampa.

Oooh I know where that is, not too far from my Mom's in Winter Haven and her neighbor shops there for all her fruits and veggies she brought us some absolutely delicious watermelon from there when we were there the last time. If we could have I would have loved to have bought a whole carload of stuff to bring back to VA but I had no room and wasn't sure how to freeze or can fruits or even veggies.

I cant wait until/if we move down there we're going to have a house built (we hope) in Eagle Lake everything depends on DH's SSDI appeals then we can go there all the time and to the Wrestling events too every month.

Some time between last weekend and this weekend they started harvesting the strawberries. My goodness, I've never seen so many. I was kicking myself too because I bought some at Wal Mart and they cost me nearly $4 and the ones at the flea were only $2.50 and fresh off the plant from local growers. Well the next purchase will be at the flea market!

Yes on being close to Winter Haven. It's about 10 miles... maybe less.

Sounds yummy! We have a new International Grocery store. It takes up an old Kroger store, so it's rather large. I went a few weeks ago. Their produce selection was wonderful, and very cheap! I was able to bring home a lot of nice produce. They had papaya for .49/lb. It was wonderful-brought me back to my days as a kid in Hawaii (Navy Brat). We had about 6 papaya trees in our side yard, and we had so much fruit, we couldn't give it away (all the neighbors had them too). My mom would serve it as often as we would let her, and we all got so sick and tired of it after four years! Never thought I would actually spend $$ on one again, but it did hit the spot.
