Friends

No, I don't mean the old TV show.

Please don't feel sorry for me. but I only have one friend (here on MC). I do have a request for another one...just haven't confirmed yet...you know who you are.

Anyway, it got me to thinking. Why do we have friends? I never ever go to my homepage and must admit that I'm not a very good friend (on line). I have a whopping 11 friends on facebook, most of whom are relatives. I very rarely post anything there and I never accept silly things sent to me.

Do you try to try to find/confirm as many friends as you can? Do you decline any? Do you not have any friends at all? Less than me?

I honestly don't know what to do. I certainly don't want to offend anyone, but I don't want them to think that I'll participate very much either. Should I just confirm anybody to asks to be nice? Does it really matter?

I know this is really trivial, but inquiring minds want to know.

Don't feel bad! I have no friends here! LOL!

But then again, I didn't know that even existed until you posted. Then I had to go search for what you were talking about!

Yep, I'm with zookeeper, I didn't even know there was the "friends" option here on MC.

I'm also just like you, I only have a few facebook friends and I don't reply to friend requests unless I actually like the person. I don't care what the little brother of some guy I went to high school with is doing on a daily basis. (I actually had a request from a person like that). I don't decline them, I just never reply. I also don't update my facebook more than once a week or keep up with lengthy e-mail exchanges. I guess I prefer to consider my computer time "me" time and don't want to be tied to something that makes me feel like I'm not doing my "job".

I like keeping my online and offline friends small and close. Not too close.. I NEED my alone time, if I don't get it I go nuts!

What she said.

ETA: Oh boy, now I feel bad. I did some searching and there is a person on my friend page --I didn't know this even existed. I see she hasn't posted in a few months. I hope she doesn't think I was being rude.

I have one friend here. She friend-requested me and I was really happy and felt honored, but now ... I really don't know what to do! Am I supposed to send her birthday and holiday cards? Am I just anti-social? I don't have a face book page because I don't think anybody is all that interested in what I do all day long (maybe because I am not very interested in other people's blog)

I don't understand at all what it's for. Does it mean anything? It doesn't seem like it does. Just seems nothing more than "fluff", like the rep system.

It's THERE, but it doesn't do or mean anything.

Friends already know who they are friends of, and vice versa. They don't need to be on a list as "fluff".

Well here I was, rolling along, feeling okay about myself, completely unaware that this option existed.

I have no friends. I am all alone in the mc world.

And I didn't even know it!!

11 posts later, I still have no friends! *Sniff sniff*

Just kidding. I can understand the friend thing if you are on a game site like Pogo, so you can find where your friends are, but not sure I get the reasoning for it here.

I think the friends thing is kinda silly myself....there were a few that were brought over in the upgrade, but lately, since we can't rep people for neat posts anymore, I have used it to express my "Way to go" or "Nice post" to people....kinda dumb of me, I know.

Anyways, I sent a freind request to everyone here. If you really want someone on your page, there ya go! If not, just deny it......okey doke?

I have a few friends who have requested me, but I didn't know what it was for. I didn't know it existed either until I received the requests. I accepted, but never knew where to go to find them or what it was for?! So I am understanding from this post, there is a page where you can find them?

I think I have 6 "friends"??? I don 't pay much attention to it. If someone requests me as a "friend" I usually accept. I figure if they went to the trouble of doing that, why not??

I don't understand the point of it, myself.

I just saw that I had a notification and it was a friend request from ILUVLUCY420. Lucy, I don't remember any communication with you, did you add me as your friend accidently or do I fall under your 27 truly lovely friends? Was I the one who requested it? I'm so confused!

They get rid of the rep system and now have a friend system? What next?

Yeah. Why the heck would anyone be remotely interested in being friends with boring sounding people like freer and cjs216? Ho hum.

BTW, I have graciously accepted all my pending friends. We're a tight knit group. Anyone else want to join us?

Well, count me with the group that didn't even know there was a 'friend' option.

I have a Facebook account and that's how I keep in touch with friends and relatives. I've found a lot of old friends from high school and college that I'd lost touch with. I have a MySpace account, too, but now that I'm used to Facebook, I don't use MySpace that much anymore.

I was in the same boat. I didn't know what the thing was or why I had it. No communication on my part, either.

Maybe a "mass" request? Can you do that?

Red face

sunnyday and ambrianna if my request to ask to be your friend bothered you that you needed to mention it here, then all you had to do was not accept, you did not have to mention by name to seek trouble or drama. So so sorry I bothered both of you.I kindly thought it was a nice gesture to have more friends ones we can depend on to talk about all kinds of issues. Again you have a choice and its totally up to you but a nice pm would have been more polite. Thanks peace Catherine.

I didn't say it bothered me, did I? I said I didn't understand it or what it was for. Isn't that what this thread is about? The "Friend" feature?

I'm not starting drama, I just asked a general question. For all I knew you "hit" me by mistake.

If your intention was good, why in the world would it bother you? I think you're reading a lot into something very simple.

I'm not sure why having someone on a "list" makes people more dependable to talk on all kinds of issues. For me, it's getting to know someone. I wouldn't think me being added to some list would make me more "dependable" to someone...but maybe that's just me.

Here we go again. Time to play "persecuted poster" again.

I haven't gotten a PM in ages, probably due to being a lurker most of the time and so I totally forgot the option was even there.

I'm going to be brutally honest, ILUVLUCY420, I didn't "accept" your friend request because I really don't see the point in those kind of things.

I find your run-on sentences tiresome and your poor grammar makes me cringe a million times over. I get irritated with the way you start up nineteen different threads about how Obama is going to save the world***. I hate when you interject "hon," "kindly," and "peace" constantly and every fifth word in a sentence starts with a capital letter. Quite honestly it frightens me that you teach preschoolers or kindergarteners.

I especially take issue with the fact that whenever someone disagrees with you or questions something you say, you automatically start the "why me" threads. Learn how to debate intelligently instead of attacking people.

Back to lurking, although since I'm not "speshul" and not on the list of posters that can say whatever I want, I will probably be banned from this site.

***disclaimer*** Although I am a staunch Republican, I do not hate Obama, he seems to have a pleasant demeanor and is a very eloquent speaker. I am waiting to see what he does in office before I judge his performance. I do, however, know that he is only human and is only being set up for failure by the people that are praising him on what a great job he is doing for this country and how wonderful he is. The man has been in office for a matter of hours and has done nothing yet so I don't "get" where all the praise and criticism is coming from.

Catherine, I need to ask you a question. Why don't you at least try to make your posts more friendly to the eye. I have a hard time following since it alls runs together. I know people have asked before, could you at least try?

You know, I'm sorry for my post. I admit I was having a bad day and I shouldn't have taken it out on you. I just really do get frustrated by your posts because I'm sure you do have something to contribute--it is just so hard to understand with the way you type. Could you spend the extra couple minutes it would take to proofread your post and maybe work in a few paragraphs and use more punctuation? It would cause a lot less frustration for me and at least a handful of other posters who PM'ed me about the whole topic? Thanks for considering, and once again, I apologize for how I came across yesterday, it was uncalled for and it is totally not how I usually am.

That was really nice of you to post. Not everyone can do that. Have a great day!
