Front Load Washer and Dryer pedestals

We are getting a front load washer and dryer but I don't have the money right now for the pedestals. I was wondering if anyone else has them without the pedestals? Or can you tell me where I might get them cheaply?

I have them without, but we did ours stackable.

I wanted the pedestals, but the laundry room is much nicer with the washer and dryer stacked. If I had a pedestal TOO, I'd never be able to reach the controls on the dryer - I'm a shortie! LOL!

I liked the storage area in the pedestals, but instead I have a good deal of shelving.

When I bought our front loaders a few years back, Whirlpool was running a special whereby they would rebate the pedestals price back to you. It was a great deal.

Check out the website for the brand of washer and dryer you are getting for any promotions.

I didn't get the pedestals because I couldn't rationalize spending that kind of money on those cheap things. If you need the storage underneath, I would say go for it. But, if you think you need to raise them higher, I can tell you it doesn't bother my 6'4" husband. He is the one who does the laundry. They do give them a nice look. I thought I might pick some up in the scratch and dent room some day, but it certainly isn't on the top of my list of things we need.

What I would like is a contraption that goes over the top of them, to make one long surface. But, again, the cheapo in me just can't rationalize the cost.

A friend of mine had her husband build a wooden thing with drawers. He did a great job and it looks custom built.

Words of advice...NEGOTIATE!

The washer/dryer/pedestals may have a price tag on them but that doesn't mean you can't bargin with the salesperson. Chances are they are working on commission and they have some room to cut you a deal.

When I bought my front loaders, I was able to get my pedestals for about $100 each. I found a salesperson and had them explain the difference between two different models of washers that were pretty similar (I already knew that I wanted the more expensive one of the two for certain features it carried).

I hemmed and hawwed about how I really liked the more expensive washer but just didn't have it in my budget for both the washer/dryer set and pedestals. I told him that another store I was in had the pedestals on sale (even though the washer was more expensive at the other store, it wasn't listed in the ad I brought with) and I would prob just end up going to the other store since the pedestals were cheaper there. He asked me what he could do to keep my business. I told him I would buy the more expensive washer/dryer set if he would throw in the pedestals for free (about 250 each at the time). He told me he was sorry and that he couldn't do that.

I thanked him and turned to leave and he said "I can give them to you for a discounted price though!" so I said "One hundred bucks piece and we have a deal!" I doled out the cash and had the appliances delivered the next week (with free delivery and set up, no less!)

I'm fairly short (5' 4"). I didn't buy the pedistals because I thought they were way to expensive.
Honestly, I think they'd be too high for me if I had them. I don't mind bending over a little.
Hey, it's good exercise anyway!

I wouldn't get them without the pedestals. I wasn't about to break my back bending over to do laundry. I told DH if we were getting those washers & dryers, I have having the pedestals. I use one of them for a little storage, but I didn't buy them for the storage. I bought them to raise them up.

I guess it depends on your height & if you have a good back. I'm 5'4", but I have a bad lower back. My sister is the same height and she does not have the pedestals. All personal opinion.

If you buy them w/out and change your mind, you could always get them later.

I'm 5'3" and can't imagine not having them! I don't put anything on top of them and I store my laundry supplies in the pedestals. It is so nice to be able to pull one of the drawers out and set my basket on it when I load/empty the washer/dryer. Saves so much on my back. I have no trouble reaching the buttons, heck, my five year old can almost reach them. Now if I didn't have the pedestals there are little fingers in my house that would be pressing buttons all day long!

We don't have the pedestals for ours, because if we did, they would not be able to fit under the cabinets. I can see having them, especially if you wanted your machines to be higher. I am 5'8" though, and it doesn't bother me at all; however I really don't do too much laundry these days, as both my boys are grown and on their own.

We bought the pedestals with ours and I hate them. We don't use them anymore. We are going to change our laundry room around so that the washer and dryer set side by side and we put a countertop over them to hold folded clothes, etc. Right now, I can't reach halfway on the top because I am short. We also think the pedestals are causing them to move around more than they should. I wish we wouldn't have bought them at all

We have pedestals, they are so much easier to access the washer and dryer and provide great storage.
