Yes, it's been all over the news.

Please don't tell me that everyone is going to blame Obama for this? It's been coming for awhile.

“The reason we’re having a panic drop is the fact that Europe is catching our cold, and we could have deeper and deeper problems that could require more and more money. And eventually the government is going to have to stop spending,” said Keith Springer, president of Capital Financial Advisory Services. “It’s a pretty dangerous situation to be in.”

Was that serious or sarcasm? I can't tell by your post and don't know you well enough to judge.

But, in my opinion, Bush earned his blame for a lot of things (I'm not saying everything). And the stock market has been unstable for quite some time. Hardly Obama's fault. Yet I bet people will blame him...the media headlines make it sound that way.

Doesn't every President have something to be blamed for? It seems to come with the office. I don't envy the person that sits in that seat. I couldn't do it for all the money in the world.

(Although Presidents do seem like quarter-backs in football. Even though the President has to answer to other areas of government, whatever happens - win or lose - ends up on his shoulders. All the glory or all the hate. )

Media headlines - Lordy! Does ANY form of media EVER tell the real truth? Is there any form of media that doesn't twist and turn and skew issues around so much, the truth gets buried?

I wasn't for Obama. But he is here now and I respect his position. I pray he will be guided to help this country at least back on track to being on it's feet. I have no idea if he can do it or not, NO ONE does. The future is unwritten. I watched the inauguaration at work and I'm glad I did. I was very interested and it was time well spent.

"At the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 332 points, or 4%, to 7,949.

The percentage decline was the biggest ever on the first day of an administration. That broke the old record of 2.9%, set on Nov. 22, 1963, when Lyndon Johnson took over after John F. Kennedy's assassination."

The Dow closed down....it closes AT 4:00 PM......Obama had been president for 4 hours if you want to get technical!!!!!! Geez!!!! Right back at ya!!!!

I would think a new president would raise the stock prices so I don't think this bodes well. And yes, Bush would have been blamed. Don't forget the Dems have had Congress for the last two years so there's plenty of blame to go around for this mess.

If my memory serves, yes, Bush was blamed for the economy that was already tanking the day he took office eight years ago.

Hmm.

This is actually pretty interesting.

Check it out! Stock chart, Index chart - MSN Money

It looks like Bush is leaving the Dow Jones pretty much exactly where he found it!

The Nasdaq... yuck. That chart just makes me ill. NASDAQ COMPOSITE ($COMPX) - Stock chart, Index chart - MSN Money

That one was what was really cooking during Clinton's tenure in office since it is where most tech stocks are held. When all the crazy more.com's went bust, it fell like a lead balloon... and Bush inherited that economic disaster from Clinton.

It's fascinating that while things are *bad* right now, they appear to actually be about the same (the Dow Jones) as they were when Bush came into power, and during his terms, they were the highest they have ever been.

Sadly, though, just like the Clinton tech issue, those numbers were built on shifting sand that ultimately couldn't support them. I think it's really, really sad that while Bush has to go, the Barney Franks who were every bit as if not more culpable for anything that happened with our banking system get to stick around for eternity. Personally, I'd like to kick him out on his keester.
