| $ for Non-Profit Organization
Does anyone have any ideas on corporations/entities that give $ to non-profit organizations. My daughter's school is a non-profit that could really use some new library books and other "fixing up" around the school. Thanks!

I would say it involves alot of "leg work". Check out every business in your community that you think could/would help. Even if it is just a little bit, such as a small garden store donating a bush, etc. Get out your yellow pages and share the list with others in your PTA that would like to help. Guarantee the businesses a blurb in your next PTA newsletter, or concert flyers, etc.

I would have a group put a short presentation type thing together and go to local entities. It would be better if you had a partner type program for example they sell you gift cards for 10% (or whatever) off then you encourage the school parents to buy the GCs to buy their groceries etc with. Win/win for the school and the local businesses.

You might check with local used bookstores about getting books for the library. Or maybe talk to a church or other civic organization about doing a book drive. I know that at my gym (affiliated with my employer), they have a box where people can put books that are then donated to local schools, hospitals and the like. Local civic organizations (Lions club, Rotary, Kiwanis Club) might also be able to help out with funds/doing or helping with a fundraiser to help with the maintenance needs of the school. Or they might be able to coordinate a "work day" providing volunteers and/or money for materials for that sort of thing. |

It's very unfortunate to see posts like this....everyone is suffering in this economy. Our local Lion's Club is our Boy Scouts charter sponsor. I just received a letter yesterday stating that they could no longer sponsor us and our charter is up at the end of the month.

Each local WalMart is given a certain amount of money to give out to local charities/non-profits through the course of a year; however, you can also contact WalMart Corporate ("Home Office") in Bentonville, AR for larger donations. It would take some legwork, but you may be able to secure grants/funding from state or federal Govt. for "special" curriculums or projects. Youngest DS attends a school that integrates art into every subject. I forget the "official" title of this, but it is a unique program, and the school has received federal and state funds to keep the program viable. Our local school system also has a Montessori program integrated within the school system. A true Montessori. It begins at the first grade level and continues through middle school (I believe that's the cut-off). The available slots are filled lottery style each spring. And it is free to the participants. Since that is a special or unique program--they too receive some state and federal funds. Just about all large corporations have funds set aside for charitable giving. Start writing all of them--especially any that are local!
