| Marley & Me & Men Crying
We went to see this movie recently and I liked it very much, more than I thought I would. DH sniffled and wept, this didn't surprise me, he's the kinda guy who cries watching Little House on the Prairie. What *did* surprise me was how men, of all ages, were weeping in the audience. I've never been to a movie where I saw this sorta reaction. When the lights came up at the end of the movie every single guy from maybe early 20's to maybe 80's or older was either blowing their nose, wiping their eyes, or had a puffy face and red rimmed eyes.
Anyone notice this when they saw the movie? Are the men where I live just more softies than other places? I asked DH why he thought this movie caused men to cry and he just said it made him think about all sorts of stuff, probably did the same for other men. He also said he was thinking of our dogs cuz they love him like no other and he is the undisputed King of the Universe in our dogs' eyes.
I, myself, bawled like a calf and needed the neti pot after the movie to unclog my sinuses. I kept thinking of our one elderly dog who doesn't have much oomph left in him and that's why I cried. But he's a *good* dog, not the *world's worst dog*. ;-)
What is it about the man-dog relationship that gets men who are usually more than stoic to break into tears? Is it that *you're the best thing since sliced bread* attitude dogs have for their masters? Does that get to men cuz life can beat them down in all other arenas? I know women love their dogs also ( I surely do), but I am looser at showing my emotions so it doesn't surprise me to see women crying over dog stories.
Or is it just that pets are penultimate God's earthly gift to men, period?
