Oath taken again

Just heard they administered the Presidental oath of office again. They were afraid that the little mix up yesterday could cause some problems. First time that was ever done.

I can't believe I'm gonna say this but ....Get a teleprompter for the next one. I can understand that there's a lot of stress and pressure in the moment, but I can't believe they've made such a big deal out of this. No matter what, as of 12:00 that day, Obama was POTUS, oath or not.

In some boards I'm on, there was a big hoopla about him having his hand on the bible or not, too, just because they didn't see it on TV ( was watching CNN and they didn't show it initially). Geesh.....Thankfully, other angles showed it.

Good heavens, some people will really clutch at straws, won't they? So silly.

Actually it has happen twice before.
From several news articles... Both President Calvin Coolidge and President Chester A. Arthur repeated the oath in private because of similar problems.

And they didn't even have cable news to let everyone know!

You could tell Prez Obama had memorized the oath and when the Justice screwed it up he was flustered. It's a ridiculous that the Justice did not just read it like the one who swore in the VP.

It's a shame that Prez Obama felt like he had to take the oath again just to quell the naysayers.

Why did they not allow the Media in to record the oath being taken the second time so it could be recorded for history?

There are only still pictures.

It was recorded. I think CNN showed it today. There were only 9 members of the media there to witness it, from what I understand.

And, also from my understanding, he had to take it again because according to the Constitution it must be taken exactly word-for-word.

From the Baltimore Sun:

Obama retook the oath before a handful of aides in the White House Map Room—31 hours after he spoke the words before more than a million people arrayed on the Mall. In the first go-around, Chief Justice John Roberts botched the wording, deviating from the language in the Constitution. Following along, Obama repeated the mistake.

"Out of an abundance of caution," White House Counsel Greg Craig said in a statement, Obama decided to retake the oath Wednesday. Roberts again presided.

From UPI.com (United Press International)
Constitutional law experts said the do-over probably wasn't necessary but was done to avoid any gray area.

Just heard on the news that during the second take they forgot the Bible. Wonder if the third time might be the charm

I heard something cute today.. "Since he is now President, this is his only time he will be able to have the opportunity to have something "redone".

The Bible is not a necessary part of the swearing-in. Completely optional.

I think he had memorized it but he interrupted Justice Roberts after he had only said, "I, Barrack Hussein Obama", instead of letting Roberts finish what he was supposed to say. I think that's what got things going down the wrong path. Guess Obama was a little too anxious.

Oh, well, the oath is done and Obama is president.

Roberts paused after "I, Barrack Hussein Obama," which anyone would think was a reasonable place for Obama to start repeating after him.

Roberts flubbed it. Big time. Fortunately, Obama is far more gracious than some others would have been and/or have been. No harm, no foul.

Truble 2301 I agree 100 percent no harm done. I am glad he got to repeat it again however the first time was well enough for me to know he was my new President!!!!!!! Peace. Catherine

What I don't understand is--Why is this such a big deal? Obama repeated the oath that was read to him, some people said Roberts put the word faithfully in the wrong place--they held a "do-over" end of story.
