I agree. The only thing that makes her qualified in anyone's mind is her last name. I read a blurb somewhere online yesterday - don't have a clue if it was a credible news source or not - talking about all the Kennedy money that would be there to support the governor's re-election if he were to give her the nod, and that it had been all but a done deal from the beginning for that reason, according to insiders, but that he needed to at least have exhibited the appearance of looking around. I know very little about her other than her family connections... and I guess maybe I'm old fashioned, but I kind of like people who sit in some of the highest positions of power to have had at least a little bit of a track record of having to work for those they seek to govern, and have been voted in by those people to another office or two before just handing the keys to extremely important decision-making meeting rooms over to them. |

| She started down that path. Look at the title of this thread. Additionally, many people still refer to her as CK. There was an article in our paper when she made noises about this position. She was TOLD to use Kennedy, not Schlossburg (not even sure if I spelled that correctly). She was told that the name recognition would be there for K, but not for S. dl |

Actually it has more to do with the fact that the gov will be appointing Cuomo to the seat because if he doesn't, he will have to face cuomo running for gov against him

Miriam Chavez knew that she had had an illegal working in her home - or rather, had someone she suspected but didn't ask because she didn't want to know because she knew if she knew, she'd have to send her packing to be in compliance with the law. But I wouldn't be surprised if someone with Kennedy-level money has other people doing all of those things for them... maybe even the nanny interviews, etc.. She's probably at least one or two layers of people removed from how the nanny is compensated. It's no excuse, but she probably does trust her accountants, etc., to just take care of those things for her. |

Just heard this along with POSSIBLE tax and marriage problems. I could never deal with being out in the public view. I still wonder why people that have dirty laundry would put themselves through this.

"A Kennedy aide told FOXNews.com that the decision was "last-minute." The aide said she dropped out of the race because of a "pressing personal matter" unrelated to her uncle's health. Kennedy's uncle, Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, suffered a seizure Tuesday during an inaugural lunch held for President Obama, part of his ongoing battle with a serious brain tumor." I am wondering what that issue may be, considering the scuttlebutt on her and this issue. Next quote is form the Daily News, so read it w/ a bit of whatever: "The New York Daily News painted Kennedy as defiant, quoting her saying she would not be beholden to anyone. The New York Post cast the daughter of President John Kennedy and holder to the Camelot myth in warmer familial tones with headline saying her kids and husband are all aboard a run for the Senate and President-elect Barack Obama is encouraging her." And from: Caroline Kennedy Busts on New York Times Reporter in Interview - Presidential Politics | Political News - FOXNews.com "But The New York Times said while Kennedy is forceful, she remains elusive, and noted that she never answered directly whether she would actually run in an election for the Senate seat if she weren't appointed first. ...But Kennedy appeared to insult women's magazines when she responded to a question by one of the reporters to recall, for the sake of storytelling, the moment she decided that wanted to be the senator from New York. "Have you guys ever thought about writing for, like, a woman's magazine or something?" she asked, to which the reporter countered by asking what she has against women's magazines? "Nothing at all, but I thought you were the crack political team here," she answered. The unscripted response was followed by Kennedy saying she wishes she could draw on a moment and will think about it a little more. A female hopeful for the Senate seat apparently insulting women's magazines may not be received warmly despite her talk of her being a mother and spouse. ...It also highlights what many New York political insiders are questioning, which is the validity of her experience. Kennedy has never held political office or shaped public policy. But she has worked with the New York Board of Education for the last six years and said she can use her well-known name to focus attention on New York's need for a larger share of federal stimulus money. Kennedy did not answer questions about the other candidates nor address how she would manage a position that also has to handle foreign affairs. There is a saying in New York politics that it's all about the three I's, Italy Ireland and Israel. The U.S. senator from the state must deal with constituencies that require deft handling." The above quotes are only from one source, so y'all can check it out and make of it what you may. I normally don't get into controversial discussions here, but this one really got my dander up, can't really figure out why. MZ " |

I don't know which one broke the camel's back but it sounds like there were several reasons she quit. Did she think the Kennedy name alone would give her a free pass to the Senate? That was true while her other uncles were alive but not anymore. I guess she thought that since Uncle Teddy managed to overcome his plagiarism and Chappaquiddick that she wouldn't have any problem getting in but Teddy had his brothers to clear the way for him. Teddy's very influential but he never did have the power his older brothers enjoyed and he's too sick now to clear the way for her. I guess she found that out! "Even though many Democrats had thought Paterson was going to appoint Kennedy any day now, a person close to the governor said Thursday that Paterson had no intention of picking her because he believed she handled herself poorly in introducing herself as a candidate. The person also said there were concerns about possible tax problems for Kennedy, a potential "nanny problem" involving a housekeeper, and media rumors that her marriage was on the rocks. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he said he wasn't authorized to speak for the governor, would not elaborate." http://news.aol.com/article/kennedy-...115x1201126153 |

Oh well, it looks like the suspicion is around an extra-marital affair (that may still be ongoing, not sure). Anyhow, I wish women in general would be happier to see other women do well and succeed......whether they come from the Kennedy Family or the Joe Blow family down the street....whether they had the skids greased for them or not. There are many, many spots for successful women......there isn't a quota on contributions and success. cj/
