My Day At the Magic Kingdom

Part I

My daughter and I went to the MK yesterday. As I stated on another thread, I thought the place would be empty considering the economical climate and the time of year. I couldn't have been more wrong! This was one of the most crowded days I've ever spent at WDW.

We got up to the 192 area around 10 a.m. In all the times I've been up there, I've never once taken sign pictures. My daughter thought I'd lost my mind. She's not a Disney fanatic but I know you some of you will understand the way those first signs make you feel.

We waited for the boat to take us over to the park. This guy was waiting too.

Our first stop was PotC which was closed while they fixed something. The last time we were up here it was closed for a while too. While we waited she went looking for a hoodie that she saw the last time we were there in the PotC gift shop. They weren't carrying it any more so we left there and headed down to the mountains.

Splash Mountain traumatized her as a kid and she told me she's wait while I went on it. The line was enormous. As a matter of fact the crowds down there were boardering on claustrophobic. I waited in line for about 10 minutes and it never moved so I gave up and got a fast pass. Then we went back to Pirates and it was open.

I was using this trip to play around with some of my camera settings. Most were pretty bad but I liked this one of the skeleton at the beginning of the ride.

And something I almost never do, use a flash, got me this.

Part II

For all the Jack fans.

There were a lot of things closed including the place I wanted to have lunch, Pecos Bills, Mickey's PhilharMagic and The Hall of the Presidents.

I was still waiting for my fast pass time so we went over to Peter Pan. I asked the CM there where to park the scooter I was using and he pointed out a spot. When I came back to join the line he told us to follow him and we got right on the ride. This was great because the line was about 30 minutes long.

After that we headed back to Splash and I got right on using the FP. I did something I've always wanted to do and that was take a photo as you go down the hill. Would you believe that out of all the pictures I took that's the only one that didn't come out at all!!! The picture actually did come out but the disk got corrupted somehow.

One picture from inside did take though.

By now the crowds were reaching critical mass. We were starving and we ended up at Pinocchio Village Haus. We both had the personal pizzas and both felt queasy for several hours afterwards.

We decided something calm would be good so it was the Haunted Mansion. By now I really needed to stay off my feet so for the first time I used the handicapped entrance. Disney's adherence to maintaining the theme of whatever ride you're on is amazing. This was the entrance we took.

Cool lighting!

After that we headed over to Space Mountain. Umm, NO!, for me but she wanted to go on. The line was huge so she got a FP and then we went over and did Buzz.

Buzz ended up stopping for a good 7 or 8 minutes right when we were at the end of the ride. I honestly thought they'd end up walking us off but it finally started moving again. This is where we were while we waiting for movement.

Honestly, I do like kids... really I do. But I don't see many under 7 year olds any more and to be thown in with so many in one day was about to throw me over the edge. And, to top it off, it was around 2 p.m. and 90% of them (and their parents) were having meltdowns. So where do we decide to go next? Mickey's Toontown Fair.

We saw the choo choo on the way over.

We got through there in record time and only rode one thing.

Part III

After that trauma , she went to use her FP and I went to indulge in a Dole Whip. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

On the way back to meet her, I saw some of the castle show.

Well Space Mtn. was down for repair so she skipped her ride and we wandered off just aimlessly looking at stuff, mostly different angles of the castle.

We checked out every store on Main Street and ended up down the end just as the sun was setting.

We went back over to the mountains and rode BTMRR in the dark. There's always been one part of that ride that gives me vertigo. It's when it looks like you're going to be decapitated! But I rode it anyway and it was really fun in the dark. I told my daughter she ought to look for a sweatshirt over at the Splash Mountain gift shop. She was still refusing to ride Splash. I said maybe you can get one that says I'm too much of a woos to ride SM even though my 60 year old mother was brave enough to ride Thunder Mountain. She wasn't amused.

We were going to skip Spectromagice but we got a great spot to see it so we stayed. Here's a few pictures.

Part IV

Then we fought out way through the crowd to get to Main Street. What a mob!!!

I love Wishes! This was the first time I've ever got Tink flying on film.

So there you have it. We were home here by 9:45. I slept like I was in a coma last night.

Ah, I am glad you had a sense of humor. I cannot stand long lines at amusement parks. Kings Dominion in Richmond , VA is one of the worse !

Been to KD a few times, and I agree...the lines are long. I still enjoy the park, but I like Busch Gardens in Williamsburg much better (my families favorite). Of all the parks we have been too, Disney had the longest lines.

I loved your pictures. I'm glad you had a good time. We are going to Disneyland next Friday 2/6 and I am sure hoping that there will not be a lot of people. 2/6 is both my husband's and daughter's birthdays so they will get in for free. Yea!

Beautiful Pictures, thanks for sharing.

Does anyone know when Space Mountain is closing? I read they are shutting down for a while to do repairs or remodel, or something.

I'm about 99% sure that they are closing on April 19th. I found this:

Quote:
A Walt Disney World spokeswoman told OrlandoSentinel.com the changes to the beloved coaster, which opened on Jan. 15, 1975, will be “modest.” The ride is expected to close April 19 and the rehab will last for months, though an exact finish date has not been announced.
Here's the link:

I have an ancient Sony Mavica camera that still uses floppies! It's about 8 years old and is just starting to give me signs that it will not last forever. When it does go, I can't see myself getting anything but another Sony.

I love Disneyworld!
We haven't been for about 5 years.
We have a Disney VISA credit card and we are collecting points on it to give us some extra money for the next trip.
Your pictures are great and now I want to go NOW!
We are snowed and iced in right now and couldn't even make it to the end of our driveway right now!

OP, thanks for sharing all your DW pics. I've never really wanted to go there, but after a month of cold and snow and ice, I do now.

Thanks for sharing! We took the younger two kids in September. They had a blast. We're scheduled to go again the end of September, but I'm not sure if we'll be able to swing it.

I love WDW!

WOW, I have one of those too. I haven't used it in forever, and it's actually in the "EBAY PILE" for one of these days......LOL.

thanks for the great pics and the info. on Space Mountain. DH wants to go to Disney before that close that down.....don't think that's gonna happen, tho.

Never been ...well, I went on a business trip, but they never let us into the park. We only went to Downtown Disney and stayed at the Yacht Club on the property.....but I would love to go someday.

You had me cracking up with your narratives!

Thanks for sharing, they were really awesome pictures..looks like you had fun!
