One of the Few

We have one of the few homes in Kentucky and southern Indiana that has power. This snow/ice/snow storm has really caused havoc in this area.
We are retired and don't have to go to work and have plenty of food so we are luckier than some. The tree branches on two of our trees are weighted down to the ground. One larger limb is hanging over our vehicles. Our neighborhood hasn't lost any branches or trees but my DD in another town has trees all up and down her street that have had lots of damage. She still has power but some houses on her street have lost their power. The storm is pretty much over but the tempertures will stay below freezing for several more days.

We are doing ok here in Oklahoma too. We are in day 3 of the ice storm. The ice/sleet stopped coming down sometime last night. EVERYTHING is shut down, schools, day cares, state agencies, federal agencies, the military base has even been shut down. They are asking people to stay off the roads unless it is an emergency and you need to go to the hospital. We still have power here also. The pool started freezing up last night and we had to go out every 2 hours all night and break up ice and scoop it out of the pool, I guess the ice/sleet chilled the water on top to fast and it started to freeze (something that has never happened before, even though it was only 10 degrees here last night and has gotten colder than that before). If it hadn't been icing/sleeting I could have turned the heater on, but couldn't risk uncovering the heater in order to do that, because all the ice would then go into it. Makes me think twice about wanting to swim year round, LOL. Anyway, the sun is shining, but it is still not above freezing, tomorrow it will get up in the 40's so hopefully some will melt off. We haven't left the house in 3 days, which is fine, I have plenty of supplies and no downed trees in our yard as of yet. I just wish it would hurry up and melt.

I feel for you all getting the ice storm. I think it may be the same storm hitting us now. Only, by the time it got to Maine, it ran into much colder air and we are getting snow. It just started a few hours ago, and they are saying we will be getting 14-20 inches. The kids are still in school and by the time they get home the roads will be slippery. I hate it when they don't do early dismissal on snow days. I am sure they will have the roads cleared in time for the morning commute tomorrow. We just got a storm last week that dumped a foot of snow. But, at least it does warm up a little when it snows. I am sick of snow, and really sick of below zero weather. I have been daydreaming about a sandy, warm beach...

We in my part of Maryland got our huge storm about a inch and a half however the storm turned to ice, now it is raining. This is all to turn into a frozen mess overnight (not that its good now). It is to snow tonight or tomorrow again. We are not used to this at all.
Prayers are on the way for those of you with much worse weather.

I feel so sorry for those of you who have lost power. We had a storm here on Dec. 19 that left thousands here in our county and several areas around here without power. That lasted a few days (don't remember exactly how many) and I was a total basket case with no electric, no heat, and right before Christmas. There were gobs of trees and branches down all around. The city is still in the process of cleaning that mess up. Everywhere you go there are piles and piles of tree branches that people have dragged to the front of their properties waiting for it to be picked up.

We got a little of the storm that y'all are suffering from, but we are lucky that it was only some snow. The schools in the area were closed today but it wasn't really a serious amount of snow thank goodness. The further south you go from here the more snow they got. The news said Bloomington got 12 point something inches.

I sure hope those of you without power have it restored very soon. It's miserable being without power anytime, but winter is worse when you have no heat.. Does anyone know how the Corbin, Ky. area is? I have distant relatives there.

Well, we didn't get any snow, but our local news said tonight that we got 3" of ice/sleet. It did get to 34 today so it started melting a little, but it is already at freezings temps now, so it will just get worse tonight.

We had it a few weeks ago, here in Ohio. I'm glad that we didn't get it this time. My drive stilil has ice on it, as so does some of the streets from the snow melting some and then refreezing. We did get about 10 inches of snow last night though.

I live in Silver Spring, Maryland near the DC border. We had about 3 inches of snow yesterday so no school. Then it turned to ice today and again no snow. It is warmer now than it was all day so we shall see what tomorrow brings. Obama was amazed that they canceled schools. His daughters go to Sidwell Friends which follows Montgomery County, MD ( the county that I live in) for closings.
