My poor camera

There was a picture perfect moment with my son playing with a new toy I got him so I got our my camera and it wouldn't turn on. It would flash and immediately turn off, so I replaced the batteries and same thing, multiple batteries later and a phone call to canon, my camera has gone the way of the earth. I need a new one. What camera do you guys recommend? Mine was a cannon powershot A570 IS, and I LOVED it. Should I get another one, or do you have recommendations?
Thanks!

Canon PowerShot SD1100IS is very highly rated camera at its price point. Got DH one for Christmas and he loves it, says it's the best. I have an earlier version of the same camera and it's awesome.

Amazon.com: Canon PowerShot SD1100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver): Camera & Photo

I love Kodaks. My first digital camera was an old Kodak DC210. My husband worked at a electronic warranty place and this camera came in as not fixable. When they got stuff like that the employees could buy them for $5. So he bought it and messed with it and that camera still works great!
I just recently upgraded to a newer model just because I wanted something with more mega pixels so I got another Kodak. It's a Z1012 IS and I got it right before Christmas and so far am very happy.

I also bought a little Sanyo over the summer that had the same problem as you stated in your post. It worked fine and then one day I went to take a picture and it wouldn't come on. I tried new batteries and nothing would work. And then one day I tried it again and it works fine now. Temperamental thing. I like it because it is really small and black so I can hide it in my purse to sneak into concerts

But I'd pick my Kodak over any others.

I'll second the Canon Powershot series. We have the 10 pixel and it blows away our Fuji that I paid 3 times more for.

The Canon takes wonderfully, clear pictures. Cannot be beat for the price, IMHO!

I also love the Cannon Powershot we have 2 of them and I would buy another one in a heartbeat. They take good pictures, are easy to use and I love being able to do video as well.

We just bought a printer and 8.0 megapixils camera on HSN. It had a $30 rebate and my dh had 15% off. The original price was 179.00 and free shipping.
