Whenever I push the delete key to delete something it is automatically working like I have the shift key on and is putting in periods versus deleting..I don't have the shift key on..Any help would be appreciated.New to the laptop device but it did work correctly earlier..thanks

Is your num lock key on??
What kind of laptop?


OR

Try going to regional and languages in control panel then language and details, see if you have the correct language set, you might of hot keyed a change. If you don't get any joy there try a system restore to an early time.

I was going to ask about the NUM LOCK key too. On my laptop, if it's on, DEL makes a period and it's easy to miss the light if it's on
