Anyone watching What Would you Do on ABC

I find peoples behaviors fascinating. Especially the "baby" in the car. I would definitely, without a doubt, do something about that one. And last week they had an interesting one with a "blind woman" at a deli who purchases food (I think she had a $50 and the purchase was $16.00) and the clerk gives back the wrong bills stating a $1 is a $20, etc... Of course it's all set up but it's interesting to see who steps in and what they do about it.

Yes Kathy I have watched this before, there was one where a women in Texas who was a Muslim and was wearing the clothes and was trying to order food and the man behind the counter was so rude and saying truly rude and ethic comments and so many people stood there and did nothing, in fact one man another customer stood there and commented I would not serve her either, finally after so many people ignoring it some young women stepped in, truly interesting I totally agree... Even though there are all set up the people who are not and do not react with any form of help is truly sad and pathetic.... Peace. Catherine

Yes, we watched last night. I would have had my face up to the glass of the car with the baby in there. I'm betting some did that and saw it wasn't a real baby.

I like to watch it, too.

I've just seen bits and pieces. I saw part of the baby thing. They were talking to a woman who was trying to justify why she didn't do anything. What an ass. If there is any reasonable use for carrying a cell phone, this was it. I carry around a printout to put on windshields for when I see a pet left in a car and luckily for me, I've never had to do anything about a kid left in a car. It happens so often and sometimes it's an honest mistake and I feel for those people, but to deliberately do that should be a crime.

I saw one with the muslim lady also. And I do have to admit that I probably would not have said anything. To each his own as to how they feel about people of that faith, religion, background, whatever you call it.
In my opinion, and I am going to get flamed for this for sure however, I feel if you are in america you do as americans do. (This includes SPEAK THE LANGUAGE!) And one thing I tell my children, if you are giong to dress "differently the the norm, be prepared to face the consequences..." If this woman choses to dress that way KNOWING how some american people can be towards people of her culture, then be prepared to deal with it..
If not, the next plane leaves in an hour...

It may be discrimination ILL however I would not have said a word. First of all, I would not get involved. It is not my business. Perhaps the person taking care of her had family killed in the 911 attacks, perhaps he had a brother shot and killed in a muslim country defending the US.
You never know. Do not judge peoples actions... and No I would NOT have gotten involved.

Wow, that is what you would be thinking of that muslim women one of her family members killed someone in 9/11 so I am assuming you think every single Muslim person is a threat to our country. I still cannot believe you would stand there as that girl did and receive that verbal abuse and no one helped till the end.I WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY STEPPED IN. Sadly that could have been anyone of our daughters in that suituation... truly sad, we definitely need more peace in this world and perhaps violence will cease...Catherine

A Muslim lady and her teenage daughter come in the store quite frequently and if I EVER heard anyone making nasty comments about them because they're Muslim I'd step in and speak up even if it caused me to lose my job.
Both of them are very nice and polite(buy quite a bit of stuff too, heehee)and do nothing to bother anyone else. The mom wears full Muslim style dress but the daughter just wears the headscarf and conservative teenage type outfits.

I do not care what people choose to think about other people, that is your own business. For all I know there could be many people in the store thinking nasty things about these two ladies but just because you think something doesn't mean you have to say it.

I totally believe god created us all all colors or creeds or religions and this form of bad behavior is plain and simple discrimination and I for one cannot believe that someone here would make those statements. One must remember all our immigrants came to this country and did not know the language. I for one would have stepped right up and spoke to the owner and then asked for management, totally irresponsible and ignorant people in this world....Catherine

Well if you are going to move here and live here you should speak the language here. As far as people vacating that is another issue. If I were to move to Germany tomorrow I would not expect them to cater to me because I do not know German and/or don't want to learn it. I would expect that I had better learn it fast if I plan to live there. It's very arrogant to move to a country and not expect to conform to the ways of that country. IMHO

Kathy the girl on the program spoke excellent english the guy who was pretending was behind the counter and would not help her because she was wearing the head piece on and he pretended to be so rude, while she and he were actors, the people who came into the store were not. Again so many many people stood there in silence while the guy pretended to be so rude and say rude comments about her because of her being a muslim. So I guess Kathy you are saying this is way you would expect to treat someone who is not from this country. Again Kathy this young girl spoke clear english. I am shaking my head and cannot believe you made that post...Catherine

Catherine I was not replying directly to the Muslim post. Just in general about languages. The Muslim woman should have been helped. People should not be mean to each other and should step into a situation if they see/hear something bad happening.

I've seen this shown by accident a couple of times - I recall the Muslim women episode and also one with a person crying in a park. I thought it was interesting to see people's responses. Perhaps the most significant takeaway for me was the reinforcement that you "can't judge a book by its cover" or that I had stereotypes that were broken....by that I mean that sometimes the person that I would LEAST expect to help - based on appearance, age, et - is the one who ended up helping.

I am someone who roots for the underdog in real life....so I would likely ask if a person needed help if the situation was safe. If the situation was unsafe, I would probably high tail it out of there. I'm not a super-hero.

As for the rathole on languages - I agree with Kathy, that those who are living in this country for extended periods of time - not vacationers - do need to make the effort to communicate in the predominate langugae of their new country. For now, in America, that is English. I have 6 people working for me who are native to other countries (India, Korea, etc) and English is their second language - but they all expect to communicate in English to live and work here.

I do wish it was possible for some people to respond to the subject matter without attacking other posters so personally....but then again, I was told I need to get off my high horse.

Red face

ok cjs that would be me you were referring to in the last sentence of your post, I will just add, I agree that people who come to this country and choose to live in this country should definitely learn to speak the language. If you or me decided to move to another country it would be difficult and eventually we would have to learn the language, however like you said you viewed the show and clearly this women spoke very well, it was because of her outfit which then made the clerk behind the counter decide not to wait on her for assistance for some food..
