Geckos

DS has had a pair of leos for a year now. There is only one place in our small house that we have been able to keep their terrarium warm enough for them, even w/heat lamp and heater underneath, it's right near the thermostat in the LR. *And* we can't keep the house as cool as I would like it because of the lizzies.
Anyone a pro on these things? Can you recommend how to keep their home warm enough even in a room that is 68 degrees or cooler? DS loves his lizzies but I hate them in the LR and hate not being able to keep the house cooler.
The female is currently gravid with her second clutch, first two eggs were smushed when ds tried to move them to the incubator. I am afraid to do anything that will mess her up in her condition as far as warmth goes.
Also, with the cost of crickets so high we are getting ready to start breeding our own. Any tips on how to keep the smell down?
This is a case of *clearly I didn't think this one through enough* when I got him the leos last year, wish I'd gotten him a guinea pig instead at this point ;-)
TIA,
MZ

We just used a 100 watt light bulb then a UVB night light on ours. THis kept them warm enough even with the AC on. As for breeding crickets there is no real way to keep the smell down. We would use a rally large and tall rubbermaid tub. Then put a strip of packing tape about an inch from the top all the way around the tub on the inside. This way you can leave the top off (they will not climb over the tape and it is far enough down they will not jump out) and cut down on the smell. Also change the food and water source and the egg crates often as this will cut down on smell too. Good luck we did this for years and also bred cockroaches and mice. So I know all about it.
