Is this Porn? Or am I a prude?

Is this porn?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Didn't know which board to post this on. Yesterday I received an email from Hollister dot com. (they send one out every so often). The email said it 'welcomes its cheeky australian cousin' (mind the word 'cheeky') Gilly Hicks.

So I thought, hhmmm, my daughters love to look at the clearance section of the store, I wonder if the website has any clearance. So I click on the picture in the email, which is far from innocent with a girl in her panties and bra with 7 mens on either side of her in their boxers and t-shirts. It brings up the gillyhicks dot com site and lo and behold! Cheeky to be sure. Their home page of their web site shows this same girl in her underwear with the same 7 men only they are now NAKED, turned around and full total body behind nudity!!

I was livid! I don't want my teen age daughters, ages 13, 15 and 18, staring at 7 behinds. Isn't this PORN? I know Abercrombie got flack about some racy ads back in 2003 and I recall something about Benneton years before that.

What as a mother can I do about this? Can any of us do about this?

So if you go to gillyhicks dot com to check this out, beware.

I wouldn't consider that porn. I wouldn't want my 13 or 15 year old kids looking at it, but I still don't call it porn. Racy, yes, but Hollister is well known for racy ads.

Not porn but totally inappropriate for young teens and tweens for sure.

I wouldn't want my teen girl looking at such a thing but I dont consider it porn. I think porn is a sexual act.

I think it crossed the line considering who they are marketing to.

I certainly wouldn't give them my money.

Too much sexuality is being pushed at our teens/young adults these days and this is one more big example.

Not porn. As said, they are already known for their racy ads just like Abercrombie. Personally, I think it's wrong that the target market for these clothes is so young yet the advertising is for 20 somethings and beyond. I wouldn't want my tween looking at it but if my DD was 15 or older, I wouldn't mind. I've seen the same (and nearly worse) in Cosmo and the like and I know lots of teens who read that. Plus, they have sexual related stories in them (some that could almost be in a Penthouse mag).

Weird question here (don't know why it popped into my head): in my doctors office there is the photo of the row of naked babies with bare butts showing saying Happy Keester. Row of nude butts just like the image OP is saying. Saying the girls half naked wasn't in the picture (so just the guys), when does the image go from "cute" to "not appropriate" or "porn"?

Red face

Op not porn , but racy and certaintely not for young girls under the age of 16 imho but again these companies use these ads to attract attention to us consumers to purchase this items. On a personal note, how would anyone here handle this, my dear friend Maria who was born in Spain, went there this past summer and also visited the Canary Isles, long story short, she had her 12 year old dd and all the beaches are nude, you do not have to be nude to be there its a option to dress or undress. Needless to say my friend was very embrassed and had to find another beach..I for one would never be able to attend alone or with my kids, however she said there were whole families all naked??? No way.. Peace. Catherine

I've been to a nude beach. I wasn't nude and we happened on it accidentally. I've been to a nudist colony (my mom had to deliver a tax return there LOL). I would go with my family to a nude beach. We teach our kids that nudity is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. As long as it's not in a sexual context (ie: the ad that OP was talking about), it's no big deal. Not all nudity has to be sexual in my eyes

Very inappropriate to say the least. If you go to the old issues of Playboy some of the stuff in ads today would qualify to be in that! Times have changed and in this regard not for the better. Just like that Victorias secret stuff on tv. I wouldn't give my money to Abercrombie either. I won't even go in that store because the big posters look like two guys are ready to give it to you! lol I'm not a prude at all but some things are inappropriate in the public square. Not all nudity is sexual but what's the point of parading around nude? It's not necessarily more comfortable. Nothing wrong with modesty!

Not porn.

But incredibly inappropriately suggestive. The problem is the very disturbing image. A bunch of naked guys facing one solitary girl ? That's a really creepy scenario, at best. Are they about to take turns? What other conclusions does a person come to when seeing that image?

While still not appropriate for the teen market, I'd rather see a picture of one girl and one guy - the image is a lot less troubling.

Not appropriate for a clothing site that could have minors looking at it. I would be calling their headquarters. Cheeky to me does not mean full frontal nudity!

Where did you see full frontal nudity? I wanna see! I just saw some cheekiness..... I think those boys need some undies...which I thought was what they sold.

This is not porn.

I think parents need to keep their pre-teens and young teenagers out of stores like AF, Hollister, etc. These stores are for older teens, IMO.

You and your children would be much more mature than I am when I go to the nude beach (not nude thank you I don't want to be sued for trauma) I can't stop GIGGLING. You would think I was the first time I saw that...or that...or oh my giggle giggle giggle.

Sheesh, that never crossed my mind, that it was some kind of orgy scenario. I think that's more than a stretch.

Considering I've seen full male behind nudity on network TV - rarely mind you, but its happened - I'd vote for no, its not porn. Its also completely inappropriate to send to anybody who's under 18.

And while we're at it - Victoria has no Secrets folks - really, she's got nothing she hasn't shown all of us by now (rolls eyes).

Porn? Probably not.

Wrong? Absolutely.

Then again... as was asked above, what are they trying to say, having several men expose themselves to one female at once? What's the scenario they are trying to conjure up in the minds of their viewers?

I'd say it's wrong on a lot of levels, and absolutely should not be sent to kids. Heck, I'm an adult and wouldn't want to get it.

I think it's kinda cute. I guess I'm not deviant enough to read a whole lot into it. LOL. If you think the home page is bad, check out the "At Home" page. Don't all of you go there at once and crash their server, though.

Just a hint -- bestiality. Not safe for work. Don't let your teenagers look.
