| Arizona here too and I am waiting right now to see if my sweetie gets a citation in the mail this week. We went up to Vegas last weekend and as we were tooling along, there it was, Photo Cop, alongside the highway. I'm pretty sure he will be tagged for about 7 over. The bad thing is that around here they give you a heads up that you are going into an enforcement zone and it didn't click with either one of us. DOH!! ![]() After we passed by, we discussed it and neither of us could remember what the speed limit was where we were because it changes the closer you get to the dam. So we shall see.

Nope, not been caught but then again I don't really speed. We have them in the next town over (which I am in all the time). I have a friend who got one and I told her to fight it. Law says you have to be served the ticket in person and it was mailed to her. She showed up to fight it and won because she wasn't legally served. My dad got one in CA and he went to fight it because it was my brother driving. They showed the photo, he said "that's not me". They asked who it was and he said "I don't have to tell you that" and he walked out ticket free. I wouldn't pay one unless I tried to fight it first. My guess is that they are betting most people will just pay

I don't speed either...I have always been a 'granny driver' so it is very aggravating to me. It really catches you off guard. I would have slowed down at the crosswalk if there were kids around but school had already started. Yes, it came in the mail. Cashchik, I think that you have to be 9 over the speed limit for it to register. But in a school zone, you have to be under 15... no leeway from my understanding since I was going 23 which is 8 over?! I might contest it if I get the guts but read that the fine will be even higher if I lose (because it was a school zone). A few days later, I sat by the school zone down at the bottom of the hill 1/2 mile from the school, where I got the ticket, and saw people going by at about the same or faster than I had gone (clocked at 23) the other day. I think it was a speed trap and a way for the city to make money as they are hard up for money. I also know that it serves a purpose -- keeping the children safe. I'm really whining but only two months ago, I dented the car on our back fence post. I told my DH that he should take my keys away. |

A friend of my uncle's in Germany tried to wiggle out of his ticket. He insisted that his mother was driving the car. He had no idea they had taken a picture. When they sent him the picture with he and his mustache and beard, he fessed up!! They had attached a note asking him if he was sure it was his mother!!

I got a picture of me driving the car in the envelope with the ticket. I look like I'm daydreaming... not a good thing to do while you are driving. I'm trying to take the responsibility for this and learn a lesson. I'm making an effort to be more conscientious and not daydream. It will be hard for me as I've always been a daydreamer... not a good match when you are driving a vehicle. |

I guess we don't have these. I have been hit 3 times going through toll booths in New York though. It's really hard to go 5mph when you have fast pass, ya know? They got me for 20mph. The first time, I got two citations in less than a week (we were on a trip) and they deactivated my fast pass, but DH petititioned to get it back. This last time (over the holidays), they just sent a warning. cj/

Last year my parents went out of town. A friend of mine and my two kids went up to house/doggy sit. We used my Mom's care while there. I thought I had enough time to go through the yellow, I didn't. I went through a red light. After that we noticed what looked like cameras on all the lights. So when my parents got home I told my Mom to watch for a ticket in the mail, it's mine, I'll pay it. She laughed her socks off. Those aren't camera, just sensors to keep traffic moving slowly. They live in a very touristy are, I think the city bought the sensors that look like cameras to spook the out of towners.

Cuthie, In this day and age it's so refreshing to hear somebody say, yes, they were guilty, and yes, they'll try to learn something from the experience. I think we all tend to try to wiggle out of things when we know, deep down, that we were wrong. Thanks for being so honest, it's made me rethink a few of my actions as of late... |

I drive for a living I don't go more than 5 over the speed limit on the highway using cruise control and on surface streets I stay the speed limit believe me it makes people mad but I am not going to risk losing my job. I always try to get out of the way so people can pass me if they seem to want to and I don't care how many people get in front of me I would rather be at the back of the line anyway when it comes to the road and there is really no traffic around here to speak of.

Husband was flashed by one a few months ago, but we never saw a ticket. I was flashed when I was well under the speed limit, but that didn't lead to anything either. I just hate when traffic's going 10 under, and then people slam on their brakes because there's a radar van. Doesn't seem exactly conducive to safety.

we dont have those but knoxville does. i just go 5 miles over except when i am in va, which luckily isnt very often. in VA if you go one mile over they will pull you over, I've never seen more egotisitical, macho cops then those in VA. steph

According to this thread, either I'm the only one nabbed by one of these or folks just don't have photo radar (YET). It does bring the city a whole lot of revenue and times are tight... I only hope that they put my money to good use in MY neighborhood. Maybe I'll make that request in the thank you note that I'll send with my payment. |

Sometimes honesty is rewarded. Last citation I received was for speeding and unsafe lane change. I took it to court because although I was speeding, the lane change was not unsafe. I went before the magistrate, who read the police report, and then asked for my statement. I said the report was accurate (as it didn't cover the lane change), that I was speeding but that I didn't feel the lane change was unsafe......I was driving defensively, not distracted by cell phone or anything of the like, and used my turn signal. The magistrate looked at the attending trooper and said "What do you think of that? The first person today to come in and tell the truth and not make up some story". She dismissed the ticket completely. ![]() cj/

Hard part is that I DO want to fight this ... somehow ask them to use the money to hire a crossing guard for this particular crosswalk but then, it will come back to the school and I know how hard those teachers/aides work already. With photo radar, there is not an officer to talk to. It is a machine... two cameras. One takes a picture of your license plate and one takes a picture of the driver. |

Here, the problem with getting a ticket is not only the fine, but the insurance surcharge that is incurred for 3 or more years. ![]() cj/
