Nope...they make me sick. I can't imagine consuming the amount of food some of these people do. I know that some people are obese because of medical reasons but generally, I think that's an excuse and a cop out. I saw one show on extreme obese people. I remember one young man who was HUGE...couldn't get out of bed, etc. He lived with his parents and they brought him all kinds of crap. Enough food for a week for me and he would gobble through it and want more. They "couldn't stop" giving it to him because he would just phone in delivery orders or get mad. Uh...take the phone away (he couldn't get out of bed to retrieve it). It was horrible the way the families enabled these people to get so huge and then *I'm* suppose to feel bad for them?

When I was looking through the program grid earlier, I saw that 33,000 calorie one. I was thinking about watching, but I ended up doing other things and forgot. The concept seems so sad. I hope at the least, these people are getting help for themselves.

Hehehe ~ yep, I'm guilty of watching all of them, too. I also watch the ones on Discovery Health. For awhile they had a show about an obesity clinic back East. I think it is called Brookhaven. DH will walk in the room and question why I always watch those shows. I honestly can't say why ~ I guess because I have always struggled with my weight and watching those shows helps me keep in prespective that although I am overweight, I am not obese (I am 5'4" and a size 10-12). I am amazed at the enablers who bring the mountains of food to the bedridden people. It's just another type of co-dependency. They need help as much as the obese family members they are feeding.

I don't know if it was on today, but TLC had a show like that on and It kinda made me sad when they showed a Brit man who weighed over 600 lbs and said he ate what normal people do and had no idea how he got so big. (I think he really believed that) I mean seriously, at 600 pounds he burns about 7000-8000 calories just laying in bed all day. To gain weight he would have to eat more than 8000 a day. That is just unimaginable to me. And 33,000 !!!! HOW can anyone do that???? |

I started watching the one today until they did the surgery--gag-gag-gag-they were pulling out pieces that were huge! It was about the big big big people at the treatment center. Be honest is there anyone here that big? Over 550 lbs? Just curious.

I have been watching Ruby. I truly think she is inspiring to so many, at least to me. She has such a huge heart and is trying to deal with not only the weight, but the issues that have helped her pile on the weight. I have been watching for awhile and was so proud of her to go camping.

Yes I do watch them from time to time....I feel nothing but sympathy for these people...they have an addiction just like an alcoholic...Why dont you all call alcoholics...gross and gag, gag, gag???.No one says that about them....Personally when I see a drunk stumbling along the street it bothers me too... These people are pitiful and although I dont understand how they get in this condition I feel sorry for them. I watched the one where the man died and it broke my heart.....they may be obese but they are people...real human beings...even if they do gross some of you out....and no I am not obese so dont think thats why I am taking up for them....it just bothers me that some are so grossed out that they cant see a real human inside that massive body....Sherri

I do think that the obese have more of an opportunity to help themselves than the handicapped or elderly do. Same with alcoholics, drug abusers, etc. And yes, I have the same "gross" response when I see an alocholic barfing over the toilet bowl or a drug addict put a needle in their arm. So, I personally don't think I'm holding a double standard or being hypocritical. However, those subjects don't have 4 hours of running shows on TLC on Sunday. ![]() cj/

When I said gag-gag-gag I was referring to the actual surgery where they showed a big chunk of the person and it grossed me out. I was NOT referring to the person or the size or anything like that. But I do happen to think it's gross when people with no medical issues allow themselves to get that big if you want to know the truth. And I was a big huge person so I know all the excuses etc. The fact is when you eat like there is no end to the food and you make the choice to not move your body you will grow huge. And yes I do think it's gross when drug addicts and alcoholics do nasty stuff to themselves and their families and friends. Who in their right mind wouldn't?

How are they paying for all that food when they cant get out of bed and work. I say one what a guy had for breakfast alone and it was enough to feed us for 2-3 meals. surely their disabilty isnt paying for it all

I wonder the same thing, valorian. Besides just the food, some of these people are the male head of household....how do they survive? The show I was watching yesterday, the guy is checked into this assisted living place and he has a closetful of snacks that his wife sent with him. WTH? And apparently other patients get them for him. One of the staff said that the bed-bound person has absolutely nothing they can control anymore; the remaining thing that they can control is what they eat. It's just very sad for them to not be able to stop that which is killing them....it took multiple people to roll the guy from his side to his back and he felt like he was being crushed. ![]() cj/

I watched the show the man who eat 33.000 calories a day, at first he said he was bed bound, but when his family cooked him the food and wanted to show him all the food he consumes on a daily basis, he got up and went into the living and pulled the whole table right in front of him and started to eat, he complained that some of the food was cold. You also saw his family preparing food for him so much oil and grease. I am sorry but I do not feel sorry for this man at all, its plain sickening to see him eat this much food on a daily basis. I know I am not perfect and no one single person is, however there comes a point in your life when you have to admit enough is enough and his family is totally enabling with his addiction. There was also talk of alcohol and drug abuse as well, I had this discussions back in the summer and truly do not want to rehash it all, however I stand firm like is all about choices, everyone has problems and how we choose to deal with those problems we must own up to them and be totally responsible for them..I also watch the intervention programs and when I see these people who drink themselves into the deep end and the drug users who shoot up with needles in their arms it is sickening. I always pray at the end of the show, there is a positive outcome. Most definitely everyone deserves a second chance, be on that no, but again its my personal views. You and you alone have to first take the first step to help yourself and others will follow...It must be a very horrible sad life for any person who is a addict or alcoholic to know you must face each and every day and get drunk or high just to survive, while slowing killing yourself and others emotionally and physically all around you..May god give them the strength to stop and seek help. So then can see life is wonderful and there are so many things to make us happy without any addictions. Hopefully soon before it is not too late...Catherine
